Henri Mancini The St. Bonaventure s Saxophone Quartet maintains an extremely active performance schedule both at the school and in the community. In the past month the group has performed at the Grandmother s for Africa Dare to Dine Concert, Friends of India Republic Day Celebrations and the the Prelude Concert for the NSO Masterworks 3. The members of the Saxophone Quartet are Claire Genest on soprano saxophone, James Kwon on alto saxophone, Claire MacLeod on tenor saxophone and Richard Smith on baritone saxophone. They are coached by Mrs. Vincenza Etchegary. Violet Blackie - Violin Solo Mussels in the Corner.................................................... Paddy s Jig............................................................ Traditional Folk Traditional Folk Violet Blackie was born in Halifax in 2009. Her family moved to St. John s when she was 7 weeks old. She has been playing violin from the age of three, studying with Maggie Burton, Valerie Hewson and the Suzuki Talent Education Program (STEP). She has participated in the Atlantic Canada Suzuki Institute (ACSI) every Summer since 2013 and is a member of the STEP Fiddlers, led by Christina Smith. She is currently in Madame Winter s Grade 1 Class at Bishop Field Elementary School. The Young Virtuosi of S.T.E.P. Jennifer Johnson Vivace/Allegro, Concerto Grosso, Op. 8 No. 3........................................ Corelli The Young Virtuosi, led by Jennifer Johnson, comprise the senior group class of the Suzuki Talent Education Program of St. John s. In addition to the senior Suzuki repertoire, the YV also learn and perform standard concerto repertoire. They have played across the province, they travelled to Ontario in 2010 to perform with their counterparts in the Suzuki Program in Guelph, Ontario and in 2009, they toured the UK where they performed throughout London and the surrounding regions. In March 2016, they will be returning to Ontario to perform concerts as part of an exchange with the Guelph Suzuki Program. Jack White - Vocal Solo St. John s Girl.............................................. Traditional Newfoundland Folk Jack White, is a student of Peter Halley, he is an 11 year old boy from St. Mary s School who loves music. Jack sings, plays piano and trumpet and is part of The Atlantic Vocal Ensemble Boys Choir. He has a variety of interests including swimming, biking, reading, traveling, basketball and of course, performing. Tiffany Gao & Jia Crocker - Piano Duet The Fair Tale Waltz............................................................. Bastien Tiffany Gao is 6 years old. She is grade 1 student of Macdonald Drive Elementary school. So far she has learned piano for one and half years under the direction of Mrs Yaying Tu. Jia Crocker is six years old and is in grade one at Topsail Road Elementary school. She has been playing piano since she was four and loves piano lessons with her teacher, Yaying Tu. -1-

Anton Diabelli Brian Wang is an 8-year old boy who is attending at Roncalli Elementary school in Airport Heights. He started to play piano when he was 5. His piano teacher is Yaying Tu and it s his second year participating in the Kiwanis Music Festival. He loves to play classical music but also likes to play popular pieces on You-Tube. Last year he started to play violin as he wished to have a violin lesson as his 7th birthday gift. His violin teacher is Heather Kao. He also plays soccer with Feildians and he is a competitive swimmer with Legends. He likes to go camping, fishing, and riding his bike. Owen McGrath - Piano Solo Just Struttin Along................................................................ Mier Owen McGrath is 9 years old. He has been playing the piano for three years. He enjoys Jazz & Blues Music. Owen studies piano under the direction of Laura Murray Anna Paterson & Leah Wicks - Piano Duet The Happy Farmer..................................................... Robert Schumann Leah Wicks is a grade 3 student at St Peter's Primary. She spends lots of time on the ice playing hockey with the Mt Pearl Blades. Anna Paterson is a grade 3 student at Paradise Elementary. Anna can always be found dancing and singing. Both Anna and Leah are very active in their church banding program. Anna and Leah are great friends and they have a tonne of fun preparing for their piano duets together! Elizabeth Clarke - Piano Solo Song of the Cavalry......................................................... Kabalevsky Elizabeth Clarke is 12 years old and is in Grade 7. She enjoys playing the piano & guitar. She also enjoys voice and figure skating. Elizabeth studies piano under the direction of Katharine Kaben. Jennifer Mong - Piano Solo Junior Instrumental Rose Bowl Winner Scherzo No. 2.................................................................. Chopin Jennifer Mong is a 16 year old student completing Grade 12 IB diploma at Holy Heart. Jennifer has been playing the piano since the age of three, and haven't stopped since! Jennifer is currently taking lessons with Timothy Steeves. Since she started playing piano, she has won numerous awards, including the Conservatory Canada traveling study scholarship, several NLRTMA scholarships, and the highest Grade 10 piano mark in Canada (also from Conservatory Canada). Glitter Girls - Vocal Trio Swinging on a Star........................................................ Heusen/Burke Ella Antle, Mary Antle and Lisa Bourne have been involved in music together since they were toddlers. When the girls were 8 years old they decided to form the music trio, the Glitter Girls. All three girls are Grade 8 French Immersion students at St Paul s Junior High and are very active with the music program at school. They study voice with Ronalda Hutton MacDonald, piano with Joan Woodrow and dance in multiple disciplines each week. Lisa, Mary and Ella have been involved in many mainstage productions over the last several years, most recently being in Theater St John s -The Little Mermaid, Best Kind Production s Pirates of Penzance and Peter MacDonald Production s Tarzan & Santa s Place. The girls have also been repeated recipients of Conservatory Canada s Medal of Excellence in the area of voice, piano and theory. In their spare time Lisa, Mary and Ella enjoy learning to play a wide variety of musical instruments including guitar, ukulele, saxophone, flute, trombone and accordion. They are very honored to be on stage tonight, with accompanist Evan Smith, and hope you enjoy their performance of Swinging on a Star. -2-

Paul Basler Michael O'Keefe is a recipient of the Memorial University Alumni Association Entrance Scholarship valued at $25,000 and is currently a second year student at the School of Music. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in trumpet under the guidance of Dr. Alan Klaus. Michael enjoys performing as soloist, as member of MUN Chamber Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble, and also enjoys his role as a teacher for young and aspiring students. Michael is one of this year's runners-up in the Senior Instrumental Rose Bowl. Alice Macgregor - Vocal Solo Sister Susie s Sewing Shirts for Sailors............................................. Weston Alice Macgregor is a grade nine student from MacDonald Drive Junior High School. She has been singing at the St. John s Kiwanis festival since the age of 7 years. This is also the age she began singing with Shallaway, the senior choir of which is looking forward to travelling to Cuba for international performances and workshops, leaving St. John s early next Saturday. Alice s has the great fortune to count Cheryl Hickman, Kellie Walsh and Leslee Heyes as her vocal mentors. Annalili Spurvey & Rachel Hiscock - Woodwind Duet Duet for Two Flutes........................................................... Kummer Annalili Spurvey & Rachel Hiscock are both students of St. Bonaventure s College. Both Annalili & Rachel are in the Wind Ensemble Band under the direction of Vincenza Etechgary. Vaughan Williams Diggi Daggi............................................................... W.A. Mozart Nick Bendzsa is a 16-year-old student at Holy Heart High School, who studies voice with Shelley Neville. He is an active member of the musical theatre community. Recent credits include: Sister Act (Atlantic Light Theatre), The Little Mermaid (TSJ) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Ta-Da). He is a member of QVE Mixed Youth Chorus, and is hoping to study voice at university in the Fall. -3-
Sarah Drover & Erin Lee - Musical Theatre Duet Show Off (A Tale of Cinderella)............................................ Weis & Severin Sarah Drover is 14 and a grade 9 student at Lakecrest Independent School. She has been taking voice lessons since age 4 and is a voice student of Angela Warren. Sarah loves performing. Some of her recent performances include Theatre St. John s productions of The Little Mermaid,?Into the Woods,?Annie, Mary Poppins and An Evening with Andrew Lloyd Weber. She is also a Best Kind Productions' cast member having performed in Freckleface Strawberry and Alice in Wonderland. Sarah is a member of the Lakecrest Chamber Choir and the community women's choir Cantabile. Erin Lee is a busy grade 9 student at St. Paul's Junior High. She participates in dance, Royal Conservatory Piano, Conservatory Canada Voice and acting lessons. She most recently played the role of Jane in Peter MacDonald's "Santa's Place". Emery Van De Wiel - Woodwind Solo Concerto in D Mvt. 1..................................................... Carl Reinecke Senior Instrumental Rose Bowl Winner Emery van de Wiel is a third year performance major with a minor in composition. Studying under Michelle Cheramy, his primary instrument is flute. Emery is looking forward to continuing his career in music by perusing masters programs in the near future. Noelle Slaney - Vocal Solo Senior Vocal Rose Bowl Winner Je suis encore (from Manon)............................................... Jules Massenet Soprano, Noelle Slaney is a 4 th year performance major studying with Shelley Neville at Memorial University School of Music. She is originally from Centerville, NL and grew up attending the Gander Kiwanis Music Festival. In September, Noelle will begin graduate studies in vocal performance at the University de Montreal.
