RELEASE NOTES Mackie Master Fader App V4.5.1 October 2016 Introduction These release notes describe changes and upgrades to the Mackie Master Fader app and DL Series mixer firmware since Version 4.5. New Master Fader app releases may be downloaded and installed directly from the ios device via the App Store or via itunes 1 on Mac or PC. Be sure to perform a full System Backup of Master Fader Tools > Settings before downloading the app. Master Fader V4.5.1 may be installed alongside Master Fader 3. This lets you upgrade at your convenience. If you don't know the version you are currently using, go to Tools > Help on Master Fader. The version is listed near the top of the screen. NOTE: If using a Static IP address for your DL Series Mixer, an update may fail to begin properly. Similarly, a force update will fail in the same way. If either of these happen, you will need to temporarily configure the DL hardware to use Dynamic IP addressing. This can be accomplished by changing to Dynamic IP, disconnecting the hardware from the main network, then configuring a temporary Wi-Fi network with a router directly connected to the DL hardware with no other network connections. When the update is complete, change the DL hardware back to static IP and connect it back to the main network. NOTE: By default, ios updates apps automatically. We strongly recommend you disable automatic updates for apps in ios. Otherwise you run the risk of a long update occurring right in the middle of a show. Ouch! Simply go to Settings > itunes & App Store, then turn Updates off. More detailed instructions may be found in Appendix B: ios Optimizations of the Reference Guide. For more information, please check out the Reference Guide. The mixer firmware will also need to be updated. This will happen the next time Master Fader is connected to a DL Series mixer. Simply follow the on-screen instructions. Please ensure that there is enough time before the next gig. You will need to do a force update on the mixer when going back to a previous version of Master Fader (after using V4.5.1). Supported Devices Master Fader V4.5.1 supports operation with DL Series mixers with either Lightning or 30-pin connectors. Wireless control supported from all ios models (except the original ipad). DL series mixers with Lightning dock support wired control from ipad (4th generation), ipad mini, ipad mini 2, ipad mini 3, ipad mini 4 (requires optional ipad mini tray accessory), ipad Air and ipad Air 2 (requires optional ipad Air tray accessory). DL series mixers with 30-pin dock support wired control from ipad 2 and ipad (3rd generation). Master Fader requires ios 8.0 or higher. 1 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mackie-master-fader-4/id1051811529?ls=1&mt=8 1 of 6

Master Fader V4.5 3. Spectrograph option for RTA: A spectrograph is available on all PEQ GEQ outputs and subgroups [PEQ only]. A spectrograph provides a 3-dimensional view of the outgoing signal: energy versus frequency versus time. The following is a list of items that have been added, changed or fixed since Master Fader V4.0. 1. Support for Mackie DC16: A spectrograph may be thought of as a record of multiple RTA spectrums taken over time, with color representing amplitude. This allows you to more clearly see what you hear so you may easily locate and eliminate feedback and see the EQ changes in real time. Master Fader V4.5 adds support for Mackie DC16, including a new 'Controllers' tab and a variety of Follow mode possibilities. On the left hand side lies two vertically adjustable sliders that adjust the maximum and minimum signal level shown in the spectrograph. These range between 0 dbfs [top] and 100 dbfs [bottom]. 2. All-new, great-sounding reverb: We ve spent serious time and development on a completely new set of reverb algorithms that are a true sonic step up for any Master Fader user. More realistic in every way and offering a whole range of new setting options, your next mix will benefit from the richness and depth of the all-new reverb and expanded control options. With this added level of control, you can build the perfect reverb for your application and save all of those details for easy recall later. 4. RTA and Spectrograph for input channels: An RTA or Spectrograph may now be displayed on input channels. Due to the upgraded reverbs, your snapshots and presets might sound different. We did our best to match the resulting reverb as closely as possible but we recommend you listen to each snapshot and preset and modify the reverb controls as needed. 3 of 6
Gate Presets 5. New factory presets for all processors: New factory presets are available on all processors, including EQ, dynamics, FX and output compressor. These new presets sound even better and present easier starting points to set up a quick mix. EQ Presets Compressor Presets 4 of 6
Reverb Presets Delay Presets 5 of 6
Output Compressor Presets 6. New Master Fader Settings: Metering Ballistics Options There are several new settings that determine the metering behavior. RTA Peak Hold Select if the RTA Peak Hold should be fast, slow or off. Meter Peak Hold Select if the Meter Peak Hold should be fast, slow or off. Meter Clip Hold Select if the Meter Clip Hold should be fast, slow or really slow. LR to Monitors By default, if no channels are soloed, you will hear the main LR output in the monitor bus [i.e. Headphone and Monitor outputs]. This is because the Tools > Settings > LR to Monitors setting is set to ON. If the LR to Monitors setting is set to OFF, you will only hear channels that have been soloed in the Headphone and Monitor outputs. When no channels are soloed, no audio is sent to the monitor bus. 7. FX Presets now store & recall FX return EQ: The reverb and delay presets used to recall all parameters except EQ. That's changed in V4.5! Now all parameters are recalled including the associated return EQ making it easier and faster to dial in the desired sound. 8.
