POPS SERIES Welcome to our 2019/20 Pops season at the CSO! And I have only two words: BERNADETTE PETERS! The multi-tony and multi-drama Desk Award winning singer, actress, dancer and flat-out brilliant entertainer leads the way with her clever, musical, nostalgic, sexy and often-hilarious symphony show. She s one of a kind, and you will NOT want to miss the chance to see her live and on-stage at the Tivoli! The rest of the season sparkles, too! Michael Cavanaugh, hand-picked by Billy Joel to play the lead in his musical, Movin Out!, is wonderful in the entire Rock and Roll Songbook, a specialist in the music of Billy Joel (of course), and a great pianist and vocalist, with an easy style and great energy. His show will delight the entire family. Speaking of family, our Home for the Holidays pops is designed for children of all ages. And Big Band Fever may be the most intergenerational program we present. It s the great American invention, swing! And the Tivoli is set up for dancing, so come along and dance, or just sit and enjoy the great legacy of such bands as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and many more. Valerie Duke returns as our special guest vocalist. Finally, it s LIGHTS! CAMERA! POPS! - my tribute to music written for the movies. We start at the beginning of the Hollywood Sound in the 1930s, with Gone With the Wind (Max Steiner) and Captain Blood (Erich Wolfgang Korngold), through the 50s and 60s with Bridge on the River Kwai (Kenneth Alford) and To Kill A Mockingbird (Elmer Bernstein), to the present day, with James Horner, Michael Giacchino and (of course) John Williams. We hope you enjoy this season with the CSO, and we appreciate each of you for your support. Bob Bernhardt Principal Pops Conductor Photo: Andrew Eccles
