Goodbye Middle School by: Elizabeth N. Dear Big Hollow, I have been going to your middle school since I was 10 years old. I have been a student at your school for 4 years and I have many things to thank you for. To the teachers that have two roles, teaching you, and teaching you compassion. Thank you for the supplies that you gave which allowed me to try my best at class. Thank you for introducing me to people that would become my friends, and clubs that made me adventure into parts that were not found in a normal school day. You introduced me to the wonders of computers, STEM, and band. Though most of all, for supplying me the intelligence to cope with my issues, and for others to understand and accept my past issues as the past. Thank you for these years, you have helped shape me not only as a student, but as a person. Sincerely, Elizabeth N. Fifth Grade Talks: Six Flags Great America Roller Coaster Rides By Noah P. Good Character by Grace B. What does it mean to truly have a good character? We all know what it looks like to be a good natured person. You have to be respectful, responsible, honest, kind, and have integrity. Throughout childhood, kids are taught over and over again about these traits, in school and at home. One of the most crucial times in our lives to develop these traits, is during childhood and into adolescence. As small toddlers, from about the age of 2 to 4, we begin our development into what our character will be. Each year of primary and elementary school, one of the main focuses in our learning is what the principles of good character are. In school, through these eight years, we practice what that is. When we move on to High School, we use what we learned as children to understand what it means. There is the expectation that students will display good character but, this may not always be the case. Most people know we are judged by how we act and that how we act affects how we are perceived. People expect us to present our best behavior wherever we are. Our character is always being appraised. People develop their perception of who you are by the content of your character. Everyday we have opportunities to do our best. We do this by taking responsibility for our actions. Do we clean up after ourselves, or hold the door for the person behind us? How do we react when asked to pick something up that someone else dropped? Do we disobey the teacher by continuing to go on our phones in secrecy during class? Do we speak up when we see our peers do something like this? We may have various reasons for what we decide to do. When things like this happen what does it say about good character? We all are bound to lose sight at times, of what s decent, and valuable, the character traits we should follow. However, when it continues for too long or too many instances, we might want to take time to consider our actions. When one person is known for having a decent character and is praised for it but slips now and then, does that still mean they have a good character? We are always expected to be on our best behavior, it just may not always be the case for us. When given the chance to show we are kind and respectful we usually take the opportunity. But, do we only do it in front of someone who matters, or when we know it will be seen? For example, you may help a struggling peer while the principal is standing right behind you and will see it. The principal most likely they will be impressed and reward you. However, would you act the same if the principal was subtracted from this situation? If you would be less likely to help that same person when no one is watching, what does this say about your character? Then there is the factor of our peers all around noticing what each of us does. What does it all come down to? It depends on you and how you view what it means to be a person of good character. Maybe you won t get complimented for your actions or character. You may not think its worth it or the energy it takes. An article in Psychology Today, stated that, our unconscious mind starts from whatever objective data is available to us usually spotty and helps to shape and construct the more complete picture we consciously perceive. Even if it seems that trying to keep a good character is not worth it, there are amazing benefits. It includes feeling happier and living longer. Developing good character is one way to a good reputation and overall, a better life. Just keep in mind the status of your content of character. It can be one of the most important ideas you consider. 10 Things to Bring on the Last Day of School By: Brianna L. and Paige C. 1: Your friends sweatshirt- They won t want you keeping it over summer break. 2: Notebook for autographs 3: Extra pens- for people to sign autographs. 4: Camera- for pictures with your best friends. 5: Phone - to get your friends phone numbers. 6: Garbage bags - for that locker that you haven t cleaned out all year-yes the struggle is real 7: Your Backpack- These garbage bags will get full 8: That library book you forgot to return- Mrs.Demuth will not be happy if you take them home over the summer. 9: Gifts for friends or teachers (or all of them) 10: Food- or be hungry (or hangry)
Swimming By: Noelle P. Swimming is a very fun sport! It s cool to be able to perform different strokes or to race with your friends. Speaking of swimming strokes, the oldest swimming stroke is the breaststroke. It is actually the slowest stroke athletes swim in the Olympics. Here are some great and famous swimmers: Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin, and Grant Hackett. Swimming is awesome and fun. It is also great activity for the summer. Super Mario Odyssey Review: By Vinny M. The Nintendo Switch is a really great gaming system. You've seen all the articles about that machine. It s so good! We talked about the system and some games, but we haven t talked about the best selling Nintendo Switch game, which is Super Mario Odyssey! I decided to do a review on this amazing game! When you start the game, you see this awesome cutscene of Mario fighting Bowser. Mario got knocked out and Bowser successfully kidnapped Princess Peach. Mario landed in this new world called Cap Kingdom and meets a new person called Cappy. Cappy explains that his little sister was kidnapped by Bowser, and says they should team up to get Peach and Tiara back. So now you have to explore worlds and collect Power Moons to power up the Odyssey and rescue Peach and Tiara before Bowser marries Peach. It s one of the best Mario plots in my opinion. The gameplay is like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine because it s open world and you get to go to any place you want. The worlds are divided into kingdoms and the kingdoms are really creative. There is a Wood Kingdom, Sand Kingdom, Luncheon Kingdom, and more. There is even a kingdom with real people! Each world has dozens of power moons to collect and new areas so you will always come back to kingdoms to explore. In these kingdoms, you can buy costumes, furniture, and statues. but there's even more! After the adventure, new modes will be available, so you have more replay value then before! There is even a multiplayer mode, which is really fun.
