WELCOME TO WURRLYedu WURRLYedu is a new education platform for ipads & iphones. WURRLYedu is a customizable recording studio, a performance feedback tool, an assignment management system, and an opportunity for music teachers to connect with one another anywhere in the world. THINGS TO NOTE FOR THE JANUARY PILOT PROGRAM Please only create one account for your classroom and have students record their Wurrlies through that account. In the future every student will have an account, but the pilot program is limited to teacher accounts only. You are receiving a beta version of WURRLYedu. Because of this, there will likely be a few bugs and issues with the app. Please report them to us as soon as is convenient, and know that your feedback matters a great deal. If you have any questions or concerns, I, Colin Cadarette, will do my best to make myself available during normal business hours 5 days a week and by appointment on the weekend. CHORD, FREESTYLE, & LEARN GENRES Select the CHORDS genre to view all songs containing the chords and the lyrics in the recording studio view Select the FREESTYLE genre to create your own lyrics to custom created pop-style tracks Select the LEARN genre to jam and sing along with simple learning tracks from our partner Little Kids Rock
CUSTOMIZE SONG Click here to go back to the song selection screen Click the up or down arrow to change the key of the backing track. Each number transposes the song one ½ step (i.e. -6 = three full steps down) Click the up or down arrow to adjust the tempo of the track Click to pause the track preview Click the icon to select the style of backing track: piano only, guitar only, or full band Hit the reset button to return to the original tempo or key Click to enter the recording screen

The intro chords will display but won t change color during the intro section of the song The chords appear above the lyric and match the right time in the lyric line to play the chord (but they won t change color) This bar tracks your progress through the song
REVIEW & EDIT Clicking here gives you the option to delete your video and keep the audio track only Slide the red circle left or right to hear more voice or more backing track Click here to delete your recording and return to the recording screen Vocal filters add cool effects to your voice. Click on one to try it out! Video effects add cool filters to your video, making it more like a music video. Click on one to try it out!

USING WURRLYedu IN THE CLASSROOM The following slides are three simple suggestions for using WURRLYedu in the classroom. These are only starting points, feel free to change these ideas to fit your classroom however you see fit. Also, these are not the only ways we want you to utilize WURRLYedu in the classroom. The more you use your creativity and experience as an educator, the better!
USING WURRLYedu IN THE CLASSROOM: STAGE PRESENCE Concept: Teach the students the importance of stage presence through a fun, interactive group exercise. Execution Have the students sing a group ensemble song they are working on and record the performance using WURRLYedu. Have the class watch the short 5 minute video tip by Robert Royston (acclaimed choreographer who has staged Taylor Swift and Carly Rae Jepson among many others) located in the Tips section of the app. Teacher leads a brainstorm discussion with students discussing additional ways to improve stage presence, some simple stage moves, and opens the floor to students suggestions. Students break up into groups and use WURRLYedu to record one another singing and practicing stage presence with some of their favorite songs. Students come together and re-record their group ensemble song on WURRLYedu using all of the stage presence lessons they have learned over the course of the week. They can then watch it back and be inspired by their improvement!
USING WURRLYedu IN THE CLASSROOM: LEARN A SONG Concept: Students use the customization features of WURRLYedu to slowly learn a new song and evaluate their performance through WURRLYedu. Execution Class learns a new song using the Wurrly backing tracks. Class can play with the key change, tempo change, and backing track style in order to slowly learn the song or customize the song to their voice. Students break into groups and practice their customized versions with one another and provide one another feedback. Students then come together to decide on the customized version of a song that works best for the class to sing together; you as the teacher then can record the performance and the class can provide themselves with feedback and critique. Students take turns in the classroom recording their customized version of the song (or any song chosen by the teacher), which the teacher can then review on their phone or ipad on their own time and provide individual evaluative feedback.
USING WURRLY IN THE CLASSROOM: RE-WRITE A SONG AS A GROUP Concept: Students form bands and use the customization tools on WURRLYedu to create a new top line of lyrics and melody to a popular song. Execution Allow the students to break themselves into groups and form bands. Let the student bands work together to select a song that they like from the WURRLYedu catalog. Give a brief lesson about song structure (verse, bridge, chorus, outro, etc.) and help students identify the parts as well as understand the role of each part within a song. Have students utilize the piano only or guitar only backing track in order to identify the parts of their chosen song. Give students time to work on either just changing the lyrics and keeping the melody or coming with a whole new melody, including parts where each student in the band can harmonize with one another. Use WURRLYedu as the practice tool and recording tool so save the different ideas Have students record a final version of their song on WURRLYedu. You as a teacher can then review the final song on your own time and provide evaluative feedback.
