Collection Description UBC Performing Arts Collection / UBC Archives (collector). 1928-2011. 30 cm of published materials. Collector s Administrative History The University of British Columbia Archives was established in 1970 as part of UBC Library's Special Collections Division. It serves as the University's corporate memory by identifying, preserving and making available for use the University's permanently valuable records. The University s performing arts programmes, in particular the Department/School of Music and the Department of Theatre and Film, regularly publish programmes and brochures promoting their productions. Over the years the Archives has acquired copies of these publications from various sources this collection brings together items whose original provenance is unknown. Custodial History The bulk of these materials were acquired from Rare Books and Special Collections in 2011; the remainder are items acquired by the University Archives whose provenance is unclear or unknown. Scope and Content Collection consists primarily of event flyers, programmes and calendars published to promote various performing arts productions at UBC. Also included are companion guides for some theatre productions. Materials are arranged in three categories: Theatre Productions, Musical Productions, and Performing Arts General. Within each category the materials are organized by department, organization, or production series. Notes File list available. Related materials can be found in the Guy Palmer fonds, the Players Club fonds, and the Players Club Alumni fonds. Additional information can be found in the virtual display A Brief History of Theatre at UBC. Further accruals are expected.
