Geeral system descriptio Oe of the mai advatages of a commuity atea system with a headed is the ability to coect ay stadard televisio receivers directly to the distributio etwork without the eed for additioal set-top boxes ad that the etwork itself, ofte i form of a low-cost tree-structure, eed ot be chaged. Easy system scalability, o additioal isertio costs ad simple utilizatio for subscribers are further argumets which speak for a closed commuity atea system. The KAB 3000 is predestied for small to middle-sized systems (e.g. hotels, residetial accommodatio, apartmets or housig estates) due to its extremely high packig desity ad, i regard to the cost-beefit aspect, its optimized techical setup. It is also ideal for the isertio (feed-i) of additioal foreig-laguage programs ito a existig CATV system. The KAB 3000 is a modular chael processig uit which decodes digital TV programs from DVB-S or DVB-T traspoders. The decoded digital TV programs are modulated to a suitable format for cable distributio. The high output level of >00 µv allows a direct isertio ito a distributio etwork without the eed for post-amplifiers. More programs ca be processed by itercoectig several KAB 3000 i a star-layout. The system comprises of a base uit KAB 3000 as module base with a power supply, a retur wirig board ad a cotrol pael, as well as a multitude of sigal processig modules ad expasio compoets which ca be equipped. Its high cofigurability eables the system to be easily adapted to the fuctioal circumstaces ad requiremets o site. The i- ad output cofiguratio of the modules results is doe via a permaetly istalled cotrol pael ad ca thus be adjusted o site at ay time. The settigs are saved i o-volatile memories ad thus persist eve after a power failure. Software updates of the cotrol pael ad modules ca be carried out via the built-i RS 3 iterface. Geeral system descriptio KAB 5000 is a complete rage of programmable, sigal processig modules for terrestrial, satellite ad cable TV headeds. All modules have a idetical format ad are simple to place o a wallfixig base plate or i a 6U rack frame. RF ad DC coectios are carried out o the frot pael usig plug bridges supplied. KAB modules feature frequecy agility hadled by a high-performace PLL heterodye double coversio. The broadbad oise floor geerated is exceptioally low, so multiple modules ca be istalled i the headed with very little deterioratio of the CNR. The use of SAW filters provides, o the other had, a true vestigial sidebad respose that eables frequecy plaig usig adjacet chaels. These characteristics mea the istallatios are highly flexible ad the maiteace problems are simplified. The KAB modules are programmed ad adjusted either with the PRG- 5000 programmig uit or with a PC with PRG-300 software istalled. Programmig process offers iformatio about iput BER ad geeral operatig status of the coected module. The parameter values are cotrolled i each module by a built-i, powerful microprocessor ad remai ualterable uless they are modified with the PRG or PC.
