Residential Case Study ELECTRIC INTERIORS. MARLBOROUGH
CONTEMPORARY HOME FEATURES AN INVISIBLE HOME CINEMA, AND MORE Residential Installation Location: Swindon, UK The client s brief for this residential project was very specific in that it stipulated an invisible home cinema system with 7.1 channel audio from discreet speakers in the living room and a wireless audio distribution system, with display points in bedrooms, en-suite bathroom, kitchen and a fullhouse data network. As the property was due to be refurbished in a contemporary style, the client wanted a subtle yet modern and powerful cinema system that would not dominate the living room, so custom cabinets along the full width of the wall were produced by a furniture designer to house the AV equipment. The installer also designed and integrated a wireless lighting control system to be paired with an HD video distribution over Cat5e/6 system and a separate control system for operation of both lighting and all connected AV devices with the utmost care taken to provide the best possible system within the budgetary constraints of the project. Due to height restrictions of and the client s desire for an understated yet advanced AV system, a moving picture mechanism was installed, which concealed the recessed 50-inch plasma screen in the living room when not in use. A compact, forward-firing subwoofer was also specified to be concealed within the bespoke AV cabinet and fired through a fabric panel. Programming the RTI system was a time-consuming process given the number of macros needing to be written as well as arranging the appearance of the touch-screen graphics and configuring how the system operates. After which, the program was loaded into the remotes and control processor and extensive training carried out throughout the residence. Although not hugely complex, timing of commands is critical as the above scenario requires line-of site IR, port routing IR and serial control using RS232. *WyreStorm offers dedicated HD test equipment including 7 full HD test screen and pattern signal generator. See product listing on website for details. One touch of the Sky HD button in the living room should: 1. Raise the picture on the lift mechanism 2. Switch the plasma on 3. Switch the plasma to the correct input 4. Switch the AVR on 5. Switch the AVR to the correct input 6. Switch the Sky HD box on in the rack 7. Switch the WyreStorm matrix to the correct input and output IR control is via a combination of IR and RF (radio frequency) using RTI with RTI remotes able to transmit both simultaneously to control any local devices (such as TVs) by IR, the sources in the rack via RF and the WyreStorm MX0808-PRO via Serial. The IR code stored in the remotes is blasted out of the remote line-of-sight with the TVs and commands to control everything else stored in the RTI processor. The RF signals transmitted by the remotes trigger the serial and IR commands to be issued from the processor to the devices it is controlling with one-way control, or two-way possible when required (album artwork etc.) Rako RAK-4 dimming modules were installed in the ground floor cloakroom for ground floor circuits and some RAK-4 FOR MORE INFORMATION ON WYRESTORM VISIT WWW.WYRESTORM.COM OR CONTACT SALES AT SALES.UK@WYRESTORM.COM.

As with all projects, second fix was carried out by Electric Interiors personnel to maintain a high-level of quality throughout the installation. No specialist equipment was required as this was a fairly straightforward installation. *WyreStorm offers recommendations on cable grade and supplier through its Partnership Programme of trusted manufactures tested as compatible with WyreStorm products. Problems and challenges during installations are part of any project and while frustrating, they are the best way to learn about the technology and the equipment. On this particular installation, on connection 1080p HD video was unable to be received in one of the zones. The installation consisted of new equipment and existing AV devices, which the tech-savvy client wanted to integrate - with existing screens linked to source devices such as blue ray, Popcorn Hour and a Boxee to stream video. The control system selected needed to control all devices in the property and consisted of a rack-mounted processor, RF receivers, hand-held, hard-button RF remotes in every room and a touch-screen remote in the living room. The installer contacted WyreStorm for technical support and after working through a troubleshooting checklist of possible reasons, it transpired that one of the video Cat6 cables had been damaged during installation and that bandwidth on that particular cable was compromised. To avoid ripping out the installed cable, WyreStorm also provided a solution by swapping the installed HD video balun for a single cable model. Problem solved. Electric Interiors fully designed the cable infrastructure for the electrical contractor and supplied cables to ensure quality standards, with schematics and schedule cross-referenced for clarity and a constant site presence maintained to ensure each cable was correctly connected and installed by the electrician. In the view of the installer, in such a project, nobody understands the best route to run cables better than an electrician.
