2018-2019 TTC Catalog - Media Arts Production (MAP) MAP 101 - Audio Techniques I This course covers an introduction to the tools and processes involved in audio production, including basic training in the operation of sound recording and playback systems. It is recommended that students enrolling in MAP 101 be familiar with basic computer functions and computer file management. MAP 104 - Radio Production I This course includes an introduction to radio production techniques. MAP 101 MAP 110 - Editing I This course is an introduction to basic digital editing. Logical sequencing, technical correctness and creative storytelling will be emphasized. It is recommended that students enrolling in MAP 110 be familiar with basic computer functions and computer file management. 1

MAP 112 - Media Graphics I This course is an introduction to editing techniques used to create motion graphics and visual effects. It is recommended that students enrolling in MAP 112 be familiar with basic computer functions and computer file management. MAP 120 - Image Production I This course is the study of the basic skills and knowledge required to use a moving image camera. Camera controls and compositional elements are emphasized. MAP 122 - Field Production I This course introduces the setup, operation, and application of video equipment for field production. MAP 101 and MAP 110 and MAP 120 MAP 126 - Media Arts Photography This course covers the fundamentals of camera operation and image composition as it applies to media arts. 2

MAP 130 - Lighting Fundamentals This course introduces students to the equipment, safety requirements, protocol and aesthetic techniques used in lighting digital and film productions. MAP 140 - Writing for Media Production This course is designed to teach writing techniques for radio, television, and other electronic media. ENG 100 and basic computer skills. MAP 141 - Journalism for Media This course covers the preparation of news in a form desirable for broadcasting and other electronic media. ENG 100 MAP 150 - Studio Production I 3

This course covers the basics of studio operations with emphasis on lighting, cameras, floor management, and control room operations. MAP 160 - Introduction to Media Arts and Ethics This course covers the history, current trends and ethics of Media Arts. It is recommended that students enrolling in MAP 160 be familiar with basic computer functions and computer file management. ENG 100 MAP 190 - Introduction to Animation This course covers basic skills in professional 3-D modeling and animation software used by the animation, visual effects and video game industries. Corequisite ARV 217 or MAP 112 MAP 191-3D Modeling This course covers techniques used in creating rigid body, inorganic, polygonal geometric objects. MAP 190 4

MAP 192 - Character Animation This course covers techniques used in the modeling and animation of organic characters and creatures. MAP 190 MAP 193 - Animation Workflow This course explains the principles of animation by adding and editing keyframes on a timeline. Emphasis is on the development of file structures, naming conventions and strategies that promote good workflow. MAP 192 MAP 194 - Gaming Animation This course introduces students to game development through the creation of video game assets of a 3D game engine. MAP 190 5

MAP 195 - Visual Effects This course emphasizes the principles of designing and producing node-based 3D computer animated visual effects. Projects focus on developing higher level skills in lighting, rendering, dynamics and fluids. MAP 191 MAP 198 - Animation Projects l This course covers the planning and execution required in producing an animated short film. MAP 193 MAP 201 - Audio Techniques II This course covers advanced audio production techniques. MAP 101 MAP 202 - Audio Techniques III This course includes advanced projects in audio recording techniques. 6

MAP 204 MAP 207 - Sound for Picture This course covers the basics of post-production sound for the moving image. Industry standard software will be used in the course. MAP 101 and MAP 110 7

MAP 208 - Location Sound Recording This course introduces the setup, operation and application of portable sound recording equipment. MAP 101 MAP 210 - Editing II This course covers advanced digital editing techniques. MAP 110 MAP 212 - Motion Graphics I This course covers the practice and art of creating motion graphics and visual effects for media and film production. MAP 112 MAP 213 - Motion Graphics II This course covers advanced techniques and topics in motion graphics and visual effects for media and film production. MAP 212 8

Division: MAP 222 - Field Production II This course includes the processes involved in creating and organizing an idea to the final video product. MAP 122 and MAP 140 MAP 223 - Interview and Discussion This course covers the techniques for successfully interviewing people, whether for sound bites or for full-length interview programs. MAP 224 - Field Production III This course covers advanced techniques used to create and organize an idea to the final video product. MAP 222 MAP 226 - Producing and Directing 9

This course covers the planning and execution of production to create video programing across media platforms. MAP 110 and MAP 120 MAP 243 - Script Writing This course is designed to teach students the techniques of writing for the visual medium. Emphasis will be placed on the split column and screenplay formats. The course will also emphasize the combination of visual images with sound. ENG 101 MAP 250 - Studio Production II This course is a study of advanced studio operations, including camera movements, directing instructions, editing and sequential photography. MAP 150 MAP 265 - Media Arts Business Procedures Lec: 3.0 Lab: 0 Credit: 3.0 This course is a study of professional practices involved in the organization and operation of businesses involved in media production as well as professional practices of independent, freelance contractors. 10
