Challenging higher frame rate thanks to the 4K/UHDTV New video format is the chance to reconsider all video parameters, and the frame rate is a key one. The cinema industry is also moving toward double frame rate. (refer James Cameron works) and the EBU demonstrated very well on the last IBC show the visual gains of higher frame rate. The main reason of the visual experience improvement is due to faster camera sensors producing less panning effects and sharper images (especially at text characters or object edges). Sport video is where people can appreciate the most the advantages of higher frame rates 50p/60p comes as the new requirement for the Soccer WorldCup @ June 2014. Note: Because the motion vectors are much reduced, encoding at double frame rate doesn t mean doubling the bitrate for the same quality. 60p 30p 24p

Color Depth consideration Why 10bits is required for 4K (vs 8bits): With more pixels, the gradients in the sceneries become more apparent. In order to avoid such gradients artefacts, it is necessary to go to 10bits.
