ELIGIBILITY AND PROCEDURES Eligibility requirements - Any student currently studying with an active member in good standing at the national and district or chapter level of NATS is eligible. All teachers sending students to the Auditions must be NATS members in good standing, and must belong to both the state chapter and the national organization. Membership status will be checked prior to the Auditions. If your membership is not current on the national level, please contact www.nats.org for information. Both Chapter and National dues must now be paid online through the NATS website. Membership fees must be paid before registration. If the student has been studying with the sponsoring teacher for less than eight (8) months, acknowledgement must be made of the student s formal vocal study on both the application and in any public announcements. The NATS Code of Ethics provides that It is unethical to claim as a pupil one having studied less than eight months with a teacher except where there has been no previous training. Application forms - must be filled out completely and mailed with all fees to the auditions coordinator on or before the stated deadline. TEACHERS SHOULD COLLECT THE STUDENT APPLICATION FORMS AND FEES AND MAIL THEM IN TOGETHER. Please submit one check (payable to NJ NATS) for the full amount. Accompanists - All students should bring their own accompanists. If that is not possible, there will be a professional accompanist available for students for a $35 fee. Because of the scheduling constraints, there will NOT be time for a rehearsal. Please do not send copies of music for the accompanist. Teachers may not accompany their own students. Adjudication and assistance - All teachers who enter students are expected to attend and be available to adjudicate or to assist in the Auditions. If unable to attend, the teacher should submit the Request for Waiver form along with the appropriate fee for the support of the Auditions. A waiver may be granted for no more than two consecutive years, after which time the teacher must attend in order to send students. NATS members may only enter their own students. Entering another teacher s students, for whatever reason, is unethical and will result in disqualification of all concerned. Teachers will not be asked to judge their own students or former students. At least three judges will be assigned to each classification whenever possible. Teachers who are not entering students are encouraged to attend and serve as judges. Awards and Recital At least one cash award will be given for each category in which there are entrants. First place winners only will sing in the closing recital. FEES Student entry fee - $16.00 Teacher registration fee - $16.00 NJ NATS provided accompanist fee - $35.00 Teacher Waiver fee - $50.00 (plus $16 reg. fee) PHOTOCOPIES OF MUSIC WILL NOT BE PERMITTED. All accompanists must play from original published copies of all selections. Copies of music in the public domain and downloaded sheet music are permitted as long as the authorization notification is printed on the copy.

APPLICATION FOR JOHN TEDESCHI MUSIC THEATER MASTER CLASS Doing the Doings: Acting and Not Reacting. Mr. Tedeschi will focus on using the melodic line and text to find the acting needs of the story, viewpoint, and character. Please submit your student s name, grade, the name of your pianist, and two selections the student will be willing to sing for the class. Selection of participants will be based on number of applicants and repertoire submitted. 5-7 students will be selected for the class, including alternates. All selected students and teachers will be notified by October 30. STUDENT/GRADE PIANIST REPERTOIRE (TWO PIECES PREPARED)

John Tedeschi's willingness to help whenever, wherever is one of his best qualities. Finding a voice teacher who always makes himself available to help is rare in the city and John has always been there to offer coachings and voice lessons when it comes to auditions, callbacks, and overall technique work. His repertoire and ability to find new material that specifically fits your voice is also another great quality you'll find in John. I would definitely recommend him to anyone whether they've been in the business for a long time, or if they are just starting out. He has something to offer everyone. -- John Tedeschi - Tenor Christine Dwyer, Elphaba in WICKED, current Broadway company. John is a much-sought-after teacher who serves on the faculty of The Hartt School, University of Hartford; Rowan University, College of the Performing Arts, as well as his NYC studio of students from Broadway, (including A TIME TO KILL, AFTER MIDNIGHT, AMAZING GRACE, BOOK OF MORMON, MAMMA MIA, MOTOWN, and WICKED) Off-Broadway (including PIECE OF MY HEART, BEDBUGS, and THE FANTASTICKS), regional opera and theatre companies, national tours, recordings, cruises, cabaret, and many other venues. As a teacher it is my job not only to mold an emerging voice, but to support the artist as a whole person. I accept this responsibility with humility, and the awareness that I am collaborating with the student to lay a foundation of technique, style, and discipline that will enable the true artist to emerge with color, capacity, depth, volume, and nuance. Allowing your voice to come out, and to share that voice with a listening public, is a beautiful aspect of performance and life - for in that giving you are sharing love. Originally hailing from the insurance capital of the world, Hartford, Connecticut, John went on to attend Boston University for his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, before returning to Hartford to attend The Hartt School for his Masters of Music in Vocal Performance. As a performer, Tedeschi is becoming recognized for his dynamic-tenor-instrument coupled with his captivating stage presence and endearing acting. John has performed with: Centenary Playhouse, Center Stage, Access Theatre, Ars Nova, Opera Theater of Connecticut, Osh Opera, New Britain Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Sarasota Opera, New Orleans Opera, Center City Opera and Eastern Opera of New Jersey. Broadwayworld.com cites: John Tedeschi mastered the role of (Verdi s) Otello, delivering a powerful performance, and lending the perfect blend of musical triumph and drama. Favorite roles also include: Don Jose, Otello, Pinkerton, Turiddu, The Boatswain, Sweeney Todd, Poseidon and Menelaus, Mr. Harry Horner, Harlan Gray, Rubirosa, Orin the Dentist, Orestes, and Che. John lives in his beloved borough of Brooklyn, and tries to remain patient while awaiting subway trains!
