Safety Information To avoid personal injury and to prevent fire or damage to this product or products connected to it, review and comply with the following safety precautions. Be aware that if you use this instrument in a manner not specified the protection this product provides may be impaired. Only qualified personnel should use this instrument. When using the KHT 1000C dangerous voltages of up to 1000 V are present! Therefore it may only be used by qualified and authorised personnel. Live parts of probes should be covered and probes using clamps should have insulated clips. Always adapt to the applying safety regulations. Warning: Dangerous voltages capable of causing death are present when using this instrument. Use extreme caution when handling, testing and adjusting. Connect and disconnect properly. Connect the probe output to the measurement instrument before connecting the probe to the generator. Disconnect the probe from the generator before disconnecting the probe from the measurement instrument. Keep away from live circuits. Avoid open circuitry. Do not touch connections or components when power is present. Do not operate with suspected failures. Refer to qualified service personnel. Indoor use only. Do not operate in wet/damp environment. Keep product surfaces dry and clean. Do not operate the product in an explosive atmosphere. Do not modify the instrument. Always make sure the instrument is connected to earth ground. 4

About the Probe Calibrator KHT1000C The calibrator KHT 1000C generates DC voltages and square wave signals with fast rising and falling edges of up to ± 1000 V. Optional positive or negative output voltage can be generated, so both polarities can be tested without reconnecting the probe. Rising and falling edges are identical. Output voltage is set by a four-step switch and is indicated by a digital display, can be calibrated and follows the demands of ISO 9000 et seq. for close control of inspection, measuring and test equipment. Steep rising and falling edges of 14 nsec and marginal overshoot permit to evaluate and calibrate fast HV-probes. How to use this instrument 1. Connect the probe calibrator to power. 2. Turn on the Calibrator using the switch at the back. Note that all LEDs are blinking once and the control LED (8) is lit. Since the Calibrator is still in the mode "OFF" there is no voltage present at the BNC connector (11). 3. Connect the probe to your oscilloscope and set it to the proper attenuation ratio. 4. Connect the probe to the calibrator s BNC Jack. (11) (Use insulated probes only) 5. Set the output-voltage to the desired value using the rotary switch (1). 6. Set desired polarity using the button (3). Note that the control LEDs are indicating the polarity. 7. (optional) Connect scope to Trigger output (12) 5V / 50R. 8. Use the "pulse" button (5) to generate a square wave signal of 5 ms and the set output voltage and polarity. Note that the Device is now in the mode "pulse" indicated by the control LED (6). 9. Set the trigger level to a fitting value. (e.g. 50% of the pulse amplitude) 10.Adjust the Probe. Risetime is measured from 10% to 90%. 11.After adjusting the probe turn the output voltage off using the "off" button (7). Note that the control LED (8) is lit. 12. When using differential amplifiers the probes are adjusted seperately. 13.The common mode can be checked by connecting both probes to the BNC connector at the same time. 14.For direct current output use the switch "DC" (9). Note that the control LED (10) is lit. 15. With the ground jack (13) you can make an additional ground connection. 16. The mains fuse of 0.63 A is located in the power supply connector at the backside of the calibrator Options If you have purchased the KHT 1000C with interlock option, you have to use the Interlock Cable to operate the unit. Make sure the interlock circuit is closed before testing. Blinking indicator LEDs show, if the circuit is open. In this state the KHT 1000C is not ready for testing. After closing the interlock circuit, the LEDs stop blinking and the unit is ready to use. Interfaces The KHT 1000C can be connected via USB. Optional integration of an IEEE-Interface is possible. When connecting the KHT 1000C to your PC via USB it should be detected by the Operating System. If your Operating System does not detect the KHT 1000C properly you can download drivers here: http://www.ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp.htm After installing the proper drivers and software you may install firmware onto the KHT 1000C.
