ENDERBY AREA NEWSLETTER The Chairman s Message Dear all I hope that you have coped with the hot weather, I have been a bit drained. It is only a month now to our AGM. Please make sure that you put your nominations in for the new committee members before next months meeting. Did you know that Enderby U3A has been going for 20 years? Make sure that you come in September to celebrate. If you are going to Eastbourne in November Margaret needs the balance today. I wish all that are going on holiday in the next few weeks an enjoyable time, restful or otherwise. Bev Sabin 01455 283379 GROUPS Walking 2nd Thursday This picture features members of the walking group on the August walk from Lyddington the photo is in Seaton with Harrington viaduct in background. Led by Barrie and Bev Sabin. The walk on September 13th, at short notice, is being organised by Colin and Sandy Hall. They should be contacted on 0116 2865418 to let them know whether you will be walking. We are doing a repeat walk which we enjoyed. The walk covers Staunton Harold reservoir and Calke Abbey. Meet at the Wheel Inn, Ticknall, DE73 7JZ at 10am. Colin will be sending menus out by email so that we can pre-order food. If anyone is interested in the walking group, they should contact Colin Hall on 0116 2865418. Canasta 3rd Monday 1.45p.m. The next canasta group meeting will be on August 20th. Sandy and Colin Hall will be serving refreshments. The venue for the group is the Mission Moores Lane, Enderby, LE19 4AN. Stroll and Lunch Last Thursday in the month 10.30am A gentle walk of maximum 3 miles, all on the flat, no stiles followed by lunch. Short mat Bowling Monday mornings 10am This group enjoys morning sessions of bowling at Brockington College, Enderby from 10am until noon. This group is currently full but you can contact Gill Mayer on 0116 224 2545 for more information or to be added to the waiting list. Knit and Natter 1st Monday of the month at 2.00 p.m. Venue will change every month. The next Knit and Natter will be on the 3 rd September at SYLVIA s house, please let Margaret know on 0116 2866189 if you are going, or at today s meeting. We have taken to ADAPT for their summer fete 4 sets of pre babies, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 dolly, 14 ass sizes Jumpers, 1 cardigan and shoe set, Scarf and hat, 4 cardigans, 1 hot water bottle cover, 3 baby hat and 1 Teddy. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK. Craft 2 nd Monday 1.30pm At the Mission on Moors Lane Enderby. This group would like more members, lots of help available, beginners welcome! Please let us know if you are coming. Card Making August meeting will be on 24th August. In September Card making is Friday 21st September 10am to 12.30pm called Getting ready for Christmas. Cinema Civic Centre 12.15.pm Bring your Lunch! September Film: The Greatest Showman, Based on Barnums fascination with Jenny Lind, the famous singer, and the rise of his Circus; this film is a feel good described as a moving, upbeat, and romantic musical. The price of the cinema has risen to 2.50 to cover the room hire. Pat Harrison phone number 0116 2750730. Genealogy and Family History 3rd Thursday 2pm The next meetings of the Family History group are on August 16th and September 20th. We intend to go back to the basics of family history at these meetings, looking at where best to access information. Please let Sandy know on 0116 2865418 if you are attending. Sandy has arranged a visit to the Leicester and Rutland family history research centre at Pilot House on 23rd October. On the 19th of July eight of the group visited the very interesting village of Bottesford. The centre of the village very much retains its old world charm and the church of St. Mary the Virgin is quite unique. The village postman kindly took our picture and a couple of our group managed to find themselves consigned to the stocks as can be seen from the pictures. 5
