Anthony Cornicello Screaming Whispers For Violoncello, Percussion (Vibraphone and Marimba), and Piano Duration: 7 minutes 2000 (revised and corrected version, September, 2000)
General Notes: 1. Unless noted, all trills are executed with the note one-half step above the main note. 2. This indicates an accelerando, within the indicated duration:. The following indicates that the grace note begins at the indicated duration. The grace notes should be played quickly and freely. Violoncello 1. Exaggerate the bow pressure on the string to produce a noise-like sound an octave lower: 2. Ricochet legno, left hand lightly stops strings to prevent distinct pitch of open strings; pitch heard is the result of the distance between bow and bridge as bow bounces from pont to tasto.. In measure, the violoncello should produce harmonics only, either by the molto sul pont bowing, or if possible, by a quick switch to a fingered harmonic (producing a note an octave above the written pitch). Percussion 1. Play the following figure with the mallet handles; a distinct series of pitches should not be produced. 2. The vibraphone harmonics in measures 2-4 are produced by striking the front or side of the bar with a metal beater.. The Rtr symbol indicates the trill is a rapid alternation of the main note and the two indicated notes. Piano The bisbigliando passage indicates that the arpeggiations are to be repeated freely (not strictly repeating the order of notes, and not in time with the ensemble.
