Current Handbook: Audition requirements are posted on the FOA website by the beginning of May for the next year s All-State Orchestra auditions. Proposed Handbook Change: Audition requirements are posted on the FOA website by the third week of April for the next year s All-State Orchestra auditions. Page 9 I.E. This would replace current Requests for an orchestra to perform for Comments Only must be made in writing stating the circumstances justifying the request and must be signed by the orchestra director and the principal of the school making the request. This request will then be presented to the District s membership prior to Concert MPA for a vote by the membership of that District. On the day of the event, the district chair can use Comments Only if rationale warrants. Comments Only are not allowed at the State level. Page 11. V.A Insert after. Adult piano accompanists may be used for stage performance ONLY for level E orchestras. No adults may be used on any other instruments at any level on stage or sight reading. No adult piano accompanists may be used in the sight-reading room. Page12 VII. Can solo/ensembles or orchestras change their literature when they go to State MPA s? As of now, the handbook does not say that they can or cannot. Add:

Orchestras eligible to attend State Concert MPA may change their music selections as long as they are the same classification or higher. Page 12 VII.A.3 Can we explicitly address that only 2 pieces need to be checked for required, and that it s the lowest rating of the two REQUIRED pieces that determines MPA classification? For example, ES, DS, CS pieces chosen... ES & DS checked means ES classification, DS & CS checked means DS classification, cannot check ES & CS due to adjacent level programming rule. Handbook committee is referring this to the IT department Page 13 VII.G. All new wording Photocopies of music may be used only under the following conditions. At the time of the evaluation or music performance assessment the director shall: 1. Music that is out-of-print, attach a copy of the written permission to make copies from the publisher or rightsholder. Vendors may not give this permission. 2. Music that is on order and will not arrive in time for the event, attach a copy of a vendor letter with each score containing ALL the following information: a. Music was ordered on or before the title change deadline (10 days before) b. Letter from the vendor stating the following: 1. Date music was ordered 2. Person/school name who ordered the music 3. Title of the pieces ordered 4. Must be on company Letterhead 5. Invoice for ordered music is included with the letter Failure to provide written notification from the publisher will result in disqualification, receiving judges comments only with no rating given. Remove the sentence: Published scores must be used. Page 14, Section VIII.D, add the following sentence to the end of the paragraph? Directors may use up to five (5) minutes of their allotted performance time (stage time) to warm up on stage prior to their performance. Referred to Handbook committee - at this time the committee recommends not changing the wording in the handbook Page 15 X.4. delete paragraph up to bold lettering. Music Requirements for District and State B. Solo and Ensemble literature should be of a caliber appropriate to the level of the student performing, and to the formality of the event. Broadway show tunes, Disney songs, pop tunes, or movie themes are not acceptable for anevent of this type, and will result in an entry being disqualified. Proposed Handbook change: B. Solo and Ensemble literature will fall into one of two categories. 1. Adjudicated performance: classical literature of a caliber appropriate to the level of the student performing and to the formality of the event. T his category of performance at the District High School level; receiving a superior or excellent rating, would enable the student performer to go on and participate in State Solo and Ensemble. 2. Non-Traditional performance: published literature from Broadway show tunes, Movie themes, Disney songs, Pop tunes, Jazz styles, and Folk song would be given performance comments with no award of a rating. This category would not qualify High School students for participation i n State Solo and Ensemble. Page 20. VII. H to G Page 20, VII.G change to H.
