Acrostic Poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same word as in the title. Published Example: TheOutlawTorn Torn from normal existence Hunting for the one who is responsible Embarking on his quest every morning Only to come home empty handed Under no circumstances will he quit Truth is what he is seeking Looking for the answers he may never find Answers he may not want to hear Wandering through life with one purpose To find his saboteur Only he can not understand Realization of one thing is coming clear No one is to blame other than himself Copyright 2000 Paul Sansone 3 P a g e

My Examples: HEARTBROKEN He was always there for me Every time I needed him Always the person I could trust Reaching out for me Thinking he will be back But now it s time to let it go Remembering the things that we did Our friendship finally breaking Keeping this in memory Every time I think of him Now it s time for us to let it go. LIFE Lovely Interesting Fantastic Exciting! 4 P a g e

Free Verse Poetry is any irregular form of poetry in which the content free of traditional rules. The poet may write about anything. When there is a brake in the poem or a pause the poet should start a new line. Published Example: Bitter The light in your eyes has grown dim with the autumn sun, and your touch has become dry like that of a fallen October leaf. The light dies earlier with each passing day, and our conversations also drift silently away into the twilight with only regret clinging to our lips. It comes to question with the weeks that pass whether the season will grow ever colder with the falling of snow, 5 P a g e

or if the flakes will cleanse the bitterness in our souls. Copyright 2006 Marie Summers My Examples: Me in My Tree I sit here waiting Watching the sunset The cool air against my face I love it here, Breathless as the night begins. The rough bark against my skin This is my tree a place for me to be. Dreaming As I close my eyes I think of you, Drowning out the noise of the world around me You re all that matters, I start to drift off, Into the darkness with you, But when I open my eyes Everything goes back to the way it was I know I can always have you, in my heart. 6 P a g e

Blitz poetry is a form of short phrases and images with repetition and rapid flow. The beginning of the poem is a short phrase. Begin the next line with another phrase that begins that begins with the first word as line 1. The first 48 lines should have at least 2 words. The third and fourth lines are phrases that begin with the last word of the 2 nd phrase. The 5 th and 6 th phrase begin with the last word of the 4 th line, and so on continuing this pattern for 48 lines. The last two lines repeat the last word in line 48, then the last word of 47. The title of the poem must be only three words, with some sort of preposition or conjunction joining the first word from the third line to the first word of the 47 th line. Published Example: Moment of Want This is me This magic moment Moment in time Moment of glory Glory hallelujah Glory be Be happy Be yourself again with these questions Questions asked Questions repeated Repeated endlessly Repeated warning Warning sign Warning shot Shot down 7 P a g e

An Etheree poem consists of 10 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 syllables. Or it can be reversed for example 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. It just has to follow the rule by an inverted syllable count. Published Example: Anonymous Solitude She s inclined to want more to ease her mind than do you or I. She disappears to find anonymous solitude. We look for it, but we are blind. Left behind, we become mere figments of her illusions;.... we call her unkind. Copyright 2003 Andrea Dietrich 13 P a g e

My Examples: Love Me And you Sitting there Holding roses Breathing sweet, sweet air Looking at each other With those beautiful eyes Like a warm unwavering gaze Memories holding us together So this is what love feels like between us. Life Goes On Past Present And future All together The days go by fast Create your existence Fill your life with anything Create your imagination Life can be anything, anywhere Your choices define who you truly are. 14 P a g e

A Song is an expression of the poet s personal emotions, meant to be sung. Lyrics in a song contain verses (lines that make up a song; sung poem) and a chorus (a repeating verse in a song). Published Example: Empty Wishing Well You say your eyes are a wishing well And the future you can tell You asked me what is my sign I said Scorpio was mine You told me that astrology Had to do with cosmic harmony You read divining signs to see what's up And the tea leaves in your cup (Chorus) But If you're so psychic, why couldn't you tell? Where was your warning when you fell... Into your empty wishing well You crossed the gypsies palm with gold Then you had her read me the Tarot I watched you cast the rune stones And then you tossed the bones You looked into your crystal ball Then you turned over the eight-ball You told me that your clairvoyance 15 P a g e

Is good for problem avoidance (Chorus) But If you're so psychic, why couldn't you tell? Where was your warning when you fell... Into your empty wishing well? You say your souls like a lotus flower And you believe in pyramid power You found your way through the shaman's drum And through the words of the chosen one All your past lives you say you can see But your present life's a mystery Aren't you afraid you'll fade Into a Mercury retrograde? (Chorus) But If you're so psychic, why couldn't you tell? Where was your warning when you fell... Into your empty wishing well Copyright 2000 Wally O'Lepp 16 P a g e

My Examples: Alone I sit here staring at my room wall Hoping that the time won t fall I can tell I m sad I just don t want to get mad. (Chorus) I tried to sing Before the beginning Before the pain And the rain I can t feel the hope I don t want to try I feel totally broke So all I do is cry. (Chorus) I tried to sing Before the beginning Before the pain And the rain Life is hard 17 P a g e

It is sour too It has left me scarred All I need is time for life to pull me through (Chorus) I tried to sing Before the beginning Before the pain And the rain. 18 P a g e

Truth may hurt Truth is what I need from you You need to stop playing tricks on me This is not what I want to go through Do you hear my plea? (Chorus) You caused me so much pain But yet you made it seem like we had it all We used to both love the rain But not after you let us fall Why do you tell me things that aren t true? It s time for things to go undone You had me believing you You told me that I was the one (Chorus) You caused me so much pain But yet you made it seem like we had it all We used to both love the rain But not after you let us fall 19 P a g e

I found out you had a different lover And you kept it a secret, which hurt me It was hid undercover I just want you to leave me be (Chorus) You caused me so much pain But yet you made it seem like we had it all We used to both love the rain But not after you let us fall Don t ever come back to me Don t you see what you caused? I m trying to heal the cuts you left me I wish I could let the world be paused. (Chorus) You caused me so much pain But yet you made it seem like we had it all We used to both love the rain But not after you let us fall. 20 P a g e
