DAVE STAHL NEWSLETTER - ISSUE #87, 5/15/2016 Hello Friends! Hope everyone is enjoying the spring!! We had a nice gig with the Pottsville HS Jazz band on April 28 at Hebron and now this coming Thursday, May 19, we return to the Pottsville HS auditorium for a joint concert with them. They presented a nice set on April 28th and in particular their lead alto player was a stand out. And he is a student of Tom Strohman which just proves how important it is to have a private music teacher and especially one like Tom Strohman. Tom will be on the gig this Thursday as well as Nelson Hill on lead alto. Nelson of course is the famous lead alto alumnus of Maynard Ferguson's band. We will also have Ron Stabinsky playing piano with us. You're sure to hear some great playing with all these guys on the band Then our final gig of the month at Hebron will feature our own Andrew Neu and the high school band directs, Lower Merion High. They have been with us before and left the audience with dropped jaws. These kids can really play!! So hope to see you at the gigs and thanks for your support of big band jazz!! Note: Don't forget to let us know if you are changing your email address! We can then keep you informed. Pictures: Hebron Catering - Lebanon, PA - 4/28/2016 Photos Courtesy of Robin Work

He is a marvelous trumpeter and he once again displayed his mighty talent. Also a real treat to have Dave Cianci on bass bone. He has a huge sound. We ran 4 trombones on the date and we will be using 4 for the next few dates. Nelson Hill is with us for the Pottsville gig. He along with Tom Strohman will tear it up. And Ron Stabinsky on piano will dazzle too. Should be a hot gig at Pottsville! Todd Fronauer has helped us recently on valve bone and will be with us for the next few gigs as well. He has been contributing some new material for us and he has some more new charts to present to us for the next few gigs. So there is plenty to look forward to and we hope to see you out to hear the band. Personally I had a real treat playing with the Woody Herman band at State College HS for their jazz festival. The list of guys in the band was a who's who of musicians. First rate guys, all of them and first rate charts, led by Frank Tiberi who played on the band when I was on many years ago. That's all for now,
