LETTER FROM THE DEAN Elaine Pogoncheff Dean, Arts & Sciences Division 517.483.1016 pogonce@lcc.edu Welcome to the Arts and Sciences Division at Lansing Community College! We are very happy you have chosen to work with our team in service to students and their success here at the College. We want to make your transition to the faculty role as streamlined as possible, so here is a quick overview of what to expect. You will be asked to complete College-required trainings for specific legal and safety concerns, an orientation to the campus, an introduction to the Division and your program of study, and a meeting with your mentor who will assist you with learning the ins and outs of your assignments and responsibilities. The Arts and Sciences Division is committed to engaged learning and student success in a number of ways. We want our faculty to collaborate and implement practices that facilitate those goals in the classroom. Support comes not only from a mentor, but also from our Center for Teaching Excellence. Teaching practices that we support are: Clear and challenging learning outcomes Maximum student-to-faculty interaction and student-to-student interaction An emphasis on cooperation between students Opportunities for active learning Respect for diverse talents and ways of learning Prompt feedback to the learner High expectations for students Advising activities that help students make effective choices leading to college completion We are also committed to a positive and professional work environment. Mentors, peers, supervisors, and support staff are all held to the following expectations: Behavior that is professional in nature Respect for all persons, regardless of rank or title Collaboration with other faculty, support staff, and administrators Involvement in program, departmental, and divisional planning and projects Participation in College-wide committees and task forces as needed Problem solving and conflict resolution skills that build positive relationships I welcome you to come to my Tea with Coach P meetings for discussion, dialogue, and/or problem solving. Please feel free to meet with me one-on-one for matters that may be more delicate, as well. I will be happy to converse with you!
