The Music Association Harmonia Gentium of Lecco is organizing the 12th European Festival of Youth Choirs GIUSEPPE ZELIOLI to be held in Lecco and Lombard Provinces 5 to 10 July, 2016 REGULATION THE APPLICATION FORM MUST BE SENT BY REGISTERED MAIL AND WILL COME IN LECCO NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 20, 2015 TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS: Associazione Musicale Harmonia Gentium C/o Raffaele Colombo Piazza Cappuccini, 9 23900 Lecco Italia The submission of the Application Form means the full acceptance of the terms and conditions of the following Regulation. It can also be anticipated via email to the following address: info@harmoniagentium.it. The submission of the application form should contain the FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: 1. Application form as enclosed, or available from the website www.harmoniagentium.it, duly filled out and signed. 2. A CD or cassette tape with at least 4 pieces recently recorded by the choir with a copy of each recorded score (MP3 tracks will be not accepted) 3. Up-to-date Curriculum Vitae for both Choir and Director (Max. 1000 characters with spaces). 4. A recent photo of the Choir and Director in.jpg or.tiff format. 5. A statement signed by the Director that he is committed to prepare all the collective pieces as requested by the Organizing Committee. All choirs will be given written confirmation of acceptance or exclusion no later than January 16, 2016. From June 15, 2015 on the website of Harmonia Gentium: www.harmoniagentium.itwww.festivalzelioli.it will be available in PDF format, all the songs required. 1

1 REGULATION 1.1 NATURE OF THE FESTIVAL The festival is non-competitive and therefore the judgments of merit (with relative score ) that will be expressed by the International Artistic Jury, will not determinate in any way a ranking among the participating groups. 1.2 TWO CATEGORIES OF CHOIRS ARE ADMITTED TO THE FESTIVAL: Category A : Boy and female choirs with a maximum of 30 members. If members are only girls they must not be older than 19. Category B: Mixed choirs of boys and girls, with Boys and Men (age 9-24 Cappella Musicale) with a maximum of 42 members, with at least 27 members being boys not older than 16, tenors and bass not over 24 years of age. A special preference will be given to men s classic Cappella Musicale, boys with tenors and basses. Harmonia Gentium reserves the right to consider all applications received, and to accept other choirs as well, and their decision shall be regarded as final. 1.3 THE ARTISTIC JURY - The Artistic Jury consists of 5 members from different countries + 1 Artistic Director of the Festival, with proven experience in choral and vocal performance, and one secretary. - The Artistic Jury shall attend the planned auditions and draw up a short evaluation form. - In order to establish a correct evaluation of the different aspects of the performances, the Jury will express a final grade ranging between 1 and 100. Depending on the evaluation resulting, the choirs will be awarded according to the following criterion: - Points 1-60 4 th prize - Points 61-70 3 rd prize - Points 71-80 2 nd prize - Points 81-90 1 st prize - Points 91-97 1 st cum laude - Points 98-100 1 st summa cum laude The Jury will assess the choirs based on the following items: a. Vocal enunciation of the choir as a whole in each section b. Intonation c. Rhythm, dynamics and agogic in the interpretation of the selected pieces d. Style and technical accuracy of the selected pieces e. Level of difficulty of the selected pieces (to avoid disparity when assessing the choirs - singers that are more experienced and singers that are of a young age - the assessment will be based on the difficulty of interpretation of the selected pieces f. Presentation of the choir ensemble -At the conclusion of the Holy High Mass the choirs will be given a certificate of participation. - It will be then sent to each choir a brief statement prepared by the International Artistic Jury, that contains suggestions and comments on performances. 2

1.4 COMPULSORY REQUIREMENTS: - to prepare all collective pieces for the Holy High Mass and for the Festival opening and closing Ceremony - to participate to the choirs rehearsals in the Basilica and to be present, during all the duration, of the individual events involving - not to give any independent concerts unless specifically authorized by Harmonia Gentium. Violation of these obligations may involve, at the sole discretion of the organizers, the suspension of hospitality free. 1.5 - ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS FOR THE CHOIRS DURING THE FESTIVAL: Proposal 1: -To the young singers over the age of 18, born before 5 July 1998, and -to the singers under the age of 18, but exceeding the expected number (in any case not more than 5), and- to all the people joining the choir in their personal capacity, the food and accommodation is entirely borne by the choir. These people will be accommodated in hotel or religious institute with full board at the daily rate of. 65 per person and includes: accommodation, breakfast and meals: dinner from July 5 until lunch on July 10, 2016 - drinks not included. Proposal 2 If the choir, in the totality of the people, want to be housed in SINGLE ACCOMMODATION, its cost will be on its own. In this case, the cost per person in Hotel is of. 40, in religious institute 35 - under the B & B system - (5 nights); and only for children and young people up to the age of 18, the meals are at charge of Harmonia Gentium. For other members of the group, the singers and/or accompanying persons, the daily price including also the meals will be of 65 per person and includes in total :accommodation, breakfast and meals: dinner from 5 July until lunch on July 10, 2016 - drinks not included. In both proposals the costs of room and board for the director, the organist, 2 managers for each choir, and 2 drivers of the bus, the stay and the meals (excluding drinks) will be borne entirely by the Association of Harmonia Gentium. 1.6 REGISTRATION FEE The registration fee for the festival is so established: -. 300 (three hundred) for the choirs of Category A -. 400 (four hundred) for the choirs of Category B. The fee must be paid by bank transfer on the bank account of the Musical Association HARMONIA GENTIUM, upon confirmation of participation by Harmonia Gentium itself. 3

1.7 RECORDING OF PERFORMANCES Harmonia Gentium reserves the right to audio/video recording of all events and music performed by choirs. No payment may be required, for any reason, by directors, choirs and/or associations. Upon confirmation of participation, the legal representative of the choir admitted, must sign a release prepared by Harmonia Gentium, pursuant to the provisions of the Copyright (SIAE) for all matters related to any live broadcast of radio or television, and audio and video recordings by public and private broadcasters licensed by Harmonia Gentium. 2 FESTIVAL MAIN EVENTS Opening Ceremony Gala Concert in the Basilica of San Nicolò open to the public and the Artistic Jury Choir Audition by the International Artistic Jury Compulsory collective rehearsals by choirs to prepare the pieces for High Mass ending the Festival Concerts of individual groups in the various Lombard locations European Folk Show Holy High Mass ending the Festival Closing Ceremony and delivery of certificates. 3 REQUESTED MUSICAL PROGRAMME 3.1 For the Gala Concert in the Basilica of Lecco (in the presence of audience and the Artistic Jury) 2 sacred polyphonic pieces a cappella free choice of a maximum duration of 7 ; one of which composed after 1970 1 sacred piece with organ accompaniment free choice of a maximum duration of 4 1 monodic piece from Gregorian, Ambrosian, Orthodox liturgical repertoires etc. free choice of a maximum duration of 3. 3.2 For Choir Audition (Cripta Santuario Nostra Signora della Vittoria): 1 sacred piece a cappella composed after 1970, of the author s country of origin (even in the original language) of a maximum duration of 5 1 sacred piece a cappella composed before 1970 of a maximum duration of 4 1 profane piece with piano accompaniment composed before 1970 of a maximum duration of 3 1 profane piece a cappella by any composer at any time previous to 1970 of a maximum duration of 4. NOTE: a digital piano will be made available by the organizers 3.3. The pieces presented in the Basilica of San Nicolò (point 3.1) may not be repeated in the audition referred to in point 3.2 3.4. By the audition, the piece will be performed in the order preferred by the Director of the Choir after informing the Jury, that may also request the execution of one of the collective pieces. 4

3.5 Within 45 days of having received the official communication confirming their admission to the Festival, the choirs will have to send to the Festival s Artistic Secretariat a registered mail letter containing 6 copies (6 copies of each sheet music ) of the pieces that will be performed during the two auditions which will take place in the presence of the International Artistic Jury. (It is not allowed to send the sheet music by email ) Any changes made to the announced repertoire will have to be promptly communicated to the Festival s Artistic Secretariat and the 6 copies of the new sheet music s will need to get sent no later than 15 th May 2016. Within the same period of 45 days, the choirs admitted will send the amount of the registration fee on the bank account as per the directions they will receive from Harmonia Gentium. The non-receipt of the registration fee within the deadline, will be grounds for exclusion from the festival. 3.6 For the European Folk Show 2 pop pieces of own country of the maximum duration of 6. 3.7 Freely chosen pieces once accepted by the Festival Artistic Jury must not be changed. 3.8 Compulsory Collective Pieces The collective pieces scores for Holy High Mass ending the Festival will be available from the Organization website www.harmoniagentium.it, in PDF format from 15 th June 2015. By June 20, 2016 all selected choirs must mail to the Musical Association Harmonia Gentium address, a CD or an MP 3 file of the collective pieces for the High Mass ending the Festival; the non-receipt of the registrations involves the exclusion of the Festival. 3.9 Concerts in the different host locations Choirs must arrange a sacred and folk music programme (of the maximum duration of 50 ) for the concert to be performed in the host location or in other Lombard cities, to be agreed with the Welcome Committee. This program must be attached to all the documentation sent by the choir. 4 EUROPEAN FOLK SHOW On the evening of Saturday July 9, 2016 the festival will include a parade through Lecco of the choirs dressed in own national costumes or concert wears; at the end of the parade each choir will introduce two popular pieces of own country of the duration of maximum 6. A piano will be available, even if is desirable that the pieces be performed with popular instrumental of own country. 5 CLOSING CEREMONY The Festival will come to an end on Sunday 10th July, 2016 with the following programme: 10.15 am meeting of all choirs on Sagrato della Basilica (in front of the Basilica of San Nicolò) 11.30 am Holy High Mass with a collective performance of the Mass: the pieces will be communicated by June 15, 2015. The general direction of the choirs will be assigned to the Master cavalier Pier Angelo Pelucchi, Artistic and Musical Director of Harmonia Gentium. 5

At the offertory, delivery to the celebrant of representative gifts of the village of origin of each choir. At the end of the High Mass, Closing Ceremony with the delivery of certificates of participation. 6 FINAL DETAILS The choirs will be divided into two turns: Turn A and Turn B - Harmonia Gentium Committee will draw the turns on May 30, 2016 and the following day it will communicate the results to the choirs with a detailed report and publish them on the website of the Festival. - All choirs will use their own bus during all the Festival, for all the transfers related to the event. For those arriving by plane, it is required the bus reservation through the Secretariat of Harmonia Gentium. The cost is of about. 2.800 (two thousand and eight hundred) for the duration of the festival (5 days), including all the transfers from and to airport, concerts, tours, and transfers to and from the host cities; - The costs and the organization of the free time, as well as leisure trips, excursions and so on, will be borne by each choir. Harmonia Gentium will provide to indicate useful contacts for this purpose. - Harmonia Gentium will designate a hostess or a steward in stage for each choir, who will provide communications to the Secretariat and will help for all the organizational issues related to the event of the Festival. - Harmonia Gentium declines all responsibility for any accidents to persons or property that should eventually occur to the choir while traveling to Lecco or Lombard Provinces or during the stay in Italy. - Harmonia Gentium reserves the right to make any changes deemed necessary for this regulation, or even not to make the Festival upon the occurrence of force majeure causes, excluding any reimbursement for the participating choirs.
