CURRENT PRODUCTIONS If you haven t seen Eve Earles production of Agatha Christie s The Hollow, you should hurry to get your tickets now! The story revolves around an intriguing tangled love web, featuring the usual Christie line-up of quirky characters, from the eccentric lady of the manor to the glamorous, vampish actress, from the womanising doctor to the gawky maid in training. There is never a dull moment with amusing antics, witty dialogue and of course the mysterious murder in the middle of it all to give us all something to think about. The costumes, the set and the sound and lighting effects are all perfectly customised to provide the 1950s backcloth for the dramatic action. See the last page of this letter for a selection of photographs of the dress rehearsal, kindly supplied by Dawn Bewes. HATS at Holsworthy Coffee morning For two weeks In July HATS members set up a stall in the Memorial Hall to promote the theatre and advertise the current production of The Hollow. The stall displayed photos and memorabilia of past productions (thanks to Phil, Annette and Rose) and it generated quite a lot of interest, leading to several requests to join the Supporters group and for membership. This was thought to be a useful way to promote each upcoming production in the future. Take a peek at a historical photo of a HATS production at the end of the newsletter. Facebook HATS presence on Facebook has been changed. There is now a new Members Only group. This closed group has been created to replace the original group on Facebook which could not be considered a safe place to post in-house information. This new members-only group(www.faceboopk.com/groups/hatsmembers) is strictly for paid-up members only. HATS also has a new Public Facebook page (www.facebook.com/holsworthytheatre) for posting of theatre matters of interest to the general public, such as What s On. Message from Theatre Facilities Coordinator, Phil Barfett Could all stewards please check their pockets and handbags for any HATS torches. Several have gone missing and we would rather not buy more St. Peter's Fair The Barbecue that was run by HATS during Fair Week proved to be good fun for the members and also profitable. After expenses, it raised 269.25 for our funds. RNLI presentation On 18 th July at the theatre a cheque for 362 was presented to representatives of the RNLI, this being the sum of the takings of the first night of the spring play Boeing, Boeing. The first night s takings of the current play The Hollow are to be donated to Carewise. 5

Spring play 2018 As yet no suitable proposal has been received. suggestions to the Secretary by the AGM Please forward any NODA Presidential Gala and AGM 2017 Dianne ffitch, NODA representative for District 7, to which HATS belongs invites members to attend this event on the weekend of Friday 22 nd to Sunday 24 th September, at City Centre Marriott Hotel, Castle Street, Bristol BS1 3AD. Deadline for the autumn newsletter is Friday 17 th November Thanks to the many members and sponsors who have registered to have their newsletters delivered by email, which saves quite a bit of cash for the society. Please send any items for the newsletter or changes of email / postal address to Kay Napier at this address: zena.napier@gmail.com RECENT SHOWS AT THE THEATRE The ballet company JSLN Dance entertained a very enthusiastic audience at the theatre on 15 th July, many of whom had attended the company s show last year at HATS and returned this time with their friends. The goal of this touring company is to make ballet accessible to first time audiences and seasoned theatregoers alike. This they manage to do with great success, providing a truly diverse programme, with something for everyone, from classical repertoire ballet sequences to comedy ballet to neoclassical pieces of amazing originality. Devotees of the ballet will be pleased to note that the company is returning to the area on November 12 th to perform in Bude at the Parkhouse Centre, at 7.00pm. They will perform Odile, their own version of Swan Lake, to the music of Tchaikovsky. Tickets are already available, priced 12 / 10, from the Ark Angel bookshop, Bude. 6
