Tuesday, January 22, 2019 The Graduate Opera Project: C.W. Gluck s ORFEO ED EURYDICE Stage Director: Gerald Dolter Orpheus and Euridice is the first of Gluck s reform operas, in which the composer, in collaboration with his poet, aims at a noble simplicity, avoiding what he described as an excuse of excessive ornamentation and vocal vanity. The graduate vocal students of the School of Music bring this epic story to life with the early instruments and vocal melodic treatments that were prevalent in the late 18 th century. Allen Theatre at the Student Union Building The Opera Theatre in the School of Music is excited to present a thrilling double bill! Menotti s The Medium is a one-act, scary show. The alcoholic matron of the house hosts séances at her home with the involvement of her children. When things go wrong during one of the sessions, someone tragically loses their life. Puccini s Gianni Schicchi is the third of his Il Trittico (Triptych) one-act operas. This riotous comedy revolves around the antics of Gianni, a local farmer and parttime actor, as he rewrites the will of a deceased, rich, miser, leaving a fortune to himself!
