counter-clock world The core topic of the fifth edition of Flashback is inspired from Philip K. Dick s novel Counter-clock World, a novel where the time started to flow backwards. The reverse direction is therefore counter-clockwise, counter-current and represents the different perspective, the subjective point of view, the chance to look differently at what surrounds us, finding new elements, new gateways to re-read and interpret contemporaneity. FLASHBACK_special project The FLASHBACK è Opera Viva project was born in 2013, by which artist Alessandro Bulgini stated the event and all the masterpieces presented as Living Work. In 2014, Opera Viva left the spaces of art to move to the suburbs, through Opera Viva Barriera di Milano which, with the curatorship of Christian Caliandro, market the count down to the Fair. OPERA VIVA BARRIERA DI MILANO, part two, small moral works a project by Alessandro Bulgini curated by Christian Caliandro artists: Raffaele Fiorella, Calixto Ramirez, Cristiano De Gaetano, Fabrizio Bellomo, Roxy in the Box, Alessandro Bulgini Pursuing and developing organically the reflection that started last year curated by Christian Caliandro and dedicated to Barriera di Milano, Opera Viva Barriera di Milano concretized again in a 3x6 meter advertising space in the roundabout of piazza Bottesini in Barriera di Milano in Turin, close to the neighborhood historical market of piazza Foroni, which - for six month - was occupied by artworks by six artists of different background and style, who - though- share an original innovative approach to the artistic practice. The inspiration for this year has been the Small Moral Works (1827) by Giacomo Leopardi, the greatest book of our literary tradition right because of its being elusive, indefinable, a fruit of the fusion and collision between satire, poetry, prose, social criticism, philosophy and autobiography. Thus, Leopardi ideally connects to Philip K. Dick's Counter-clock world (1967), in the sign of a different perception of history and of the artistic memory : time starts passing counter-clockwise, taking back to life what was dead and gone: authentic contemporaneity consists of the collapsing of the time dimensions: arts is useful to redefine ourselves, to reconfigure our identity, to constitute the memory of what we have been and - mainly - of who we could be. This is not an archeological search in our either near of remote past, but the awareness of how much this is an integral part of our space of existence. The 3x6 poster intends to be a taste of all this: it is a window and at the same time a crawl space. A crack that helps us glimpse what has been and what is to come. During the five days of the fair, the same works together with all the collected fragments of life shall be gathered in one exhibition to narrate this window opened to the world and for the world.

FLASHBACK_exhibition Pascale Marthine Tayou PLASTIC TREE an installation curated by Galleria Continua Jean Apollinaire Tayou was born in Cameroun. In the mid-nineteen-nineties, he changed his name and declines it to the feminine, becoming Pascal(e) Marthin(e) Tayou. Since then, Tayou has started a ceaseless artistic, geographic and cultural nomadism that led him to become one of the main protagonists of the contemporary artistic panorama. Tayou's work - right like his name - is intentionally mobile and escapes from any established pattern. Ii tis multifold, indomitable, fascinating, deep, unexpected, proliferating and multi-colored, always strictly linked to the idea of the journey and of meeting the "other than self". The work presents the tree as a symbol of the stability and the resistance of nature, while the plastic bags, which form the tree s foliage, are a fetish, a basic product of the contemporary world insofar as it accompanies the gestures of the urban consumption. At the same time the work is presented as a wandering object that scales back and forth between rural and urban. courtesy Galleria Continua, San Gimignano / Beijing / Les Moulins / Habana Phillip King BEHIND ICONIC SCULPTURES. The creative process evolution curated by Patrizia Bottallo The exhibition shows the study of devising an artistic idea by Phillip King, one of the most significant English sculptors of the second half of the past century. Pupil of Anthony Caro and assistant to Henry Moore, Philip King started to be notices in the nineteen sixties and he still is a standing character in the artistic panorama, considered a turning key of modern sculpture at international level. The exhibition shows an unpublished selection of very rare drawings, watercolors and a sculpture that document ideas that then became masterpieces, key works of the English sculpture in the 20 th century. The selection of the drawings has a great historical value: the papers are drawn on both faces, since they are extracted from the original notebook of the English sculptor. FLASHBACK_lab COLLECTING THE BEAUTY. Art collecting, from the museum to the town curated by Mariachiara Guerra Collecting the beauty is a pedagogic project for children curated by Mariachiara Guerra, born with the will to extend and tell the reflections on collection as a private and public act of preserving objects, images, and works with different intents and values. From art collectorship to collection as a gesture of care of urban space. Collecting the beauty is built as a pathway of knowledge of ancient and contemporary art, which roots into and connects to urban history and with the territory, in the Ambition of providing the students with a toolbox which can help them recognize Beauty in every day s space. FLASHBACK_video THE NEAPOLITAN PARTNERSHIP. Mario Martone and Nicola Spinosa The section dedicated to the motion images focuses - for this new edition - on two documentaries developed for Naples' Superintendence (with Nicola Spinosa) by the Italian director and set designer Mario Martone. They are not actual art documentaries but - rather - movies featuring an editing with images linked to the urban reality: on the narrative form of the poetical documentary, between reality and fiction, with the aim of narrating the contemporaneity of art, investigating the balance between the objective and subjective view.

FLASHBACK_sound SOUND SPACES. Mauro Battisti curates jazz and sound concerts "The leading theme of Flashback 2017 recalls an impossible, fascinating inversion of time: being born old and rejuvenate until dying as children. In the macro-reality of the Universe, time travels to one direction only, but - as quantum physics is teaching us - the transgression to this law is "normal" in the world of the infinitely small. A different lens of observation can therefore present us different parallel levels of the same phenomenal reality. The language of jazz, thanks to its extemporary, transformative nature, offers the listener a similar kind of experience, since it may grasp the opportunity of covering reverse roads versus the "written" music, which are fixed in the conventional style-time line. Following this inspiration, in the lounge area of the exhibiting space the visitors can attend three high-quality musical appointments; three ad hoc projects presented by famous musicians who belong to the national and international jazz-oriented scene. Furthermore, from November 1 st through 4 th, in the exhibition space, the refined sound landscapes of Land(e)scapes, a project by Ivan Bert and Andrea Bozzetto, communicate in an extemporary discrete way with the works in exhibition, thus creating a timber texture of great effect and suggestion. FLASHBACK_talk COUNTER-CURRENT THINKING. From today to yesterday This year, the Flashback talks reach the 5th edition whose main focus is the temporal analysis of the cultural and artistic phenomena. During the previous editions of the fair the talks examined the topics by looking at how they had changed and transformed in time, thus approaching them from a dynamic perspective. This year instead, taking cues from the title of the program counter-clock world, as in the book by Philip Dick, we delve into the chosen subjects starting with analysing what is contemporary and merging it with the past, focusing on the actuality of the idea. FLASHBACK_storytelling COUNTERCLOCKWISE NARRATIONS The project, which has reached its fifth year, promotes - through narration - the sensitizing and the direct active involvement of the public ; an innovative key to approach and stimulate the critical sense aimed at incrementing the interest and attention towards art with its cultural, political and economic meanings. The guided visits, which will select specific works, artists or expressive languages, will build up a short immediate interaction: actual FLASHBACKS on history and curiosities suggested by the works in exhibition. The participants shall also be called to make up their own digital gallery of works. For info and reservations:
