The work, a concerto for percussion, was written in five movements (40min) and it used a large and wide variety of percussion instruments (including 22 Tibetan singing bowls). SFA was part of the commission consortium for this piece and it was a true pleasure to work with Dr. Campo, Mr. Allen and the SFA students on this project. Harris, S. H. PASIC is the largest single gathering (about 7500)of international percussion artists, composers, performers, educators, manufactures and students in the world today. I attended clinics, concerts and masterclasses in orchestral, fundamentals, keyboards, world/ethnic and marching percussion. I also spent time in the large expo hall visiting with industry officials and becoming aware of new instruments, music, and technological innovations. I attended this convention as a solo performer with the Harrison High School Symphony Orchestra. While there I was able to attend clinics and concerts that were not only string specific but for the general musician. While there I also attended clinics and concerts in percussion performance and teaching as well as sessions on general music education. I attended PASIC in Austin, TX in November of 2006. Along with attending multiple concerts and clinics on various forms of percussion performance and teaching, PASIC also included meetings for the Contest and Auditions Committee, the Education Committee and an Editor's meeting for Percussive Notes magazine. I briefly attended the CMS National Conference in San Antonio, TX. The SOM Curriculum Committee reviews proposals regarding the courses, degree plans and general curriculum issues within the School of Music. In 2006-07 the SOM Curriculum Committee had to reduce all the SOM degree plans to meet new state requirements. This was a massive task that ultimately forced us to question all of our courses and requirements - which in the end brought out insightful and positive results. In 2007-08 we developed and approved a new degree plan in Sound Recording Technology which included eight new courses in the School of Music. In 2008-09 we developed three pre-certification degree plans in music education. Student Advising, Advisor, approximately 40 hours spent for the year. (September 1, 2006 - Present). I work with students to make sure they are passing their classes, taking courses at the right/appropriate times, and taking care of all university business (degree plans, paperwork etc). Student Organization Advisor, approximately 10 hours spent for the year. (September 1, 2006 - Present). I assist the elected officers and members in developing goals, yearly planning and activities, percussion area needs, and fundraising. PBR assisted the percussion area with new equipment, guest artist sponsorship and working at the SFA Summer Percussion Symposium. I assisted with the audition process for the percussion section of the SFA Concert Bands, Orchestras, and Jazz Ensembles. Throughout the semester I stayed in touch with these ensembles and their directors with regard to the progress of the percussion section and was available for assistance when needed. I supplied percussion instruments and personnel for many ensembles that do not usually use percussion including: the university choirs, chamber orchestra, and opera/musical productions. I also assisted in securing percussion performers for student composition recitals. Work with the LMB Drumline, Mentor, approximately 20 hours spent for the year. (August 2006 - Present). The season began with a mini-camp/audition held in early August. This opening camp, only for the drumline, was highly successful in setting technique, approach and interpretation skills that were used throughout the fall season. I continued to be active with the LMB throughout the season attending rehearsals, performances and advising the student staff as needed. A successful fall Marching Band season! Percussive Arts Society, Nacogdoches/Austin, Texas. Committee Member, approximately 15 hours spent for the year, (September 1, 2006 - Present). I serve on the following committee's in PAS: Contest and Audition Procedures Committee and the Education Committee. Both committees work towards enhancing their respective area of percussion teaching/performance. A large part of the work is towards presenting clinics and concerts at the annual convention - PASIC. Percussive Arts Society, Nacogdoches, Texas. Editor, approximately 20 hours spent for the year, (September 1, 2006 - Present). I serve as the Associate Editor of Education for Percussive Notes, the official journal of the Percussive Arts Society.
