Directors may register their students using the spreadsheet found at www.nmeamusic.org under the all-state band tab. The audition will consist of the required excerpt (attached), and a chromatic scale. The registration deadline is Thursday, January 5th. The Audition Schedule will be posted on January 12th. All-State Audition Etudes 2017 All Students will be required to start their audition by playing a Chromatic Scale which should be performed to the most accurate and practical speed / range of your ability, tongued up and slurred down. Students will then be expected to play all etudes for the instrument as described below. Keep in mind the tempo markings are suggestions; students are encouraged to play the etudes as accurately as possible regardless of tempo. Percussion needs to play all three etudes after a two octave chromatic scale. The Mallet etude may be played on xylophone or marimba. Each etude described below is accompanied by the first and last measure they are to perform in order to assist you. The audition books are attached at the end of this document. Students may audition on as many instruments as they like as long as they participate in their honor group. For example: if a student performed in their honor group on flute, they may audition for trombone as well. Each audition, however, must be accompanied by a separate application fee to reserve their slot. Piccolo is a separate audition from flute and needs to have a separate audition time slot. In theory a student could audition once on every instrument in the band if they so wished as long as they paid for the slots. Flute/Piccolo Lyrical Cavally, Book 2 Page 59, Andante cantabile.
