Inaugural Talk: COMPANY/SPEAKER Ignacio García (Director of Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre) WHEN Wednesday 6 th June 2018 13:00 King s College London, Bush House Auditorium El Teatro Barroco Como Visión Humanística Barroque Theatre and a Humanistic Vision El Hombre en el Teatro Barroco: El Teatro del Hombre Man in Barroque Theatre: Man s Theatre The Golden Age is one of the most florid moments in poetic and theatrical rhetoric in the history of humanity, with one of the deepest and most complex visions in human nature. Only profound knowledge of Spanish Baroque verse, as well as knowledge on the philosophies and ideological realities of its context, will allow one to interpret and understand true meanings of Baroque texts from a contemporary perspective. Taking Calderon s Life is a Dream as a starting point, García will take us on a brief journey from text to contemporary staging. I think a stage director should be more than just an inventor, or a discoverer. The contemporary art world is quite obsessed with invention, but I believe that a director is someone who appreciates what is already there, who finds the virtues of a text, who knows how to read them, who learns how to value them, who makes them their own, and someone who knows how to communicate the texts to actors and a public in a natural, honest and profound way. (Ignacio García, Director of Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre). PRICE Spanish with an English interpreter Free Admission 1

Workshop: COMPANY/SPEAKER José Bornas (Director of Malvados de Oro) Apata Teatro/Nacho Vilar Producciones SL WHEN Tuesday 12 th June 2018 11:00 Introducción a la Interpretación del Teatro del Siglo de Oro Español Introduction to Understanding and Interpreting Spanish Golden Age Theatre The term Golden Age (Siglo de Oro in Spanish), is used to describe the Early Modern period in Spain, a time of extraordinary artistic flowering. The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries saw a monumental increase in the production of live theatre, and it was in this period where Spanish culture brought a crop like no other in terms of dramatic genius. This workshop aims to introduce those who are interested, to Spanish Golden Age theatre and will cover the following topics: the phenomenon itself; playwrights Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molína and Agustín Moreto; speaking; staging then and now; some of the greatest texts and characters from the period (Peribáñez y el Comendador de Ocaña, Fuenteovejuna, La Vida es Sueño, etc.); the public; the other; the word; approaches to texts and monologues; relevant themes and many more. Talk: COMPANY/SPEAKER Susana Hernández El Vodevil WHEN Friday 23 rd June 16:00 La Otra Generación del 27 The Other Generation of 27 Pedro Salinas, Vicente Aleixandre, Jorge Guillén, Federico García Lorca and Rafael Alberti Merello are probably the most well-known members of the Generation of 27 but there was another Generation of 27 that was almost eclipsed by the first. The latter included Antonio de Lara (Tono), Miguel Mihura, Jardiel Poncela, Edgar Neville, José López Rubio and K-Hito, who revived the foundations of humour in theatre and cinema. 6
