FORGOTTEN VOICES : CAIT Forgotten Voices: Cait Produced by Troels Folmann and Mike Peaslee. Co-produced by Simar Bal Thanks for choosing Forgotten Voices: Cait Singer Cait McWhir, originally hailing from Ireland, draws her inspiration from almost 20 years of exploration with indian, balkan, middle-eastern & celtic vocal styles. She has an incredible versatility allowing her to freely cross between conventional folklore to ancient Sanskrit chants, Vedic mantras to free improvisation in self made languages. The library is constructed from over a thousand different vocal phrases covering over 15 hours of recording material. The phrases are divided into a variety of categories varying from some of the oldest songs known to man from the ancient Sanskrit chants to free improvisational phrases. The library has specific patches such as Balkan, Lullaby, Sanskrit Chants, Witch Chants and so forth. In addition the library also contains dual- and tripple tracked phrases, which allows for a more broad type of vocal sound by layering the same phrase two or three times. We specifically used those in demo 1 and 2 (see below). Note: This product was formerly known as Tonehammer Forgotten Voices Cait 1

MANUAL INSTALLATION If you have had any issues using our automatic installer. Please using the following manual installation procedure. We Use Winrar (version 3.80 or later) or other compatible program to un-compress the 8DIO_Cait.rar file into its own folder in your sample library directory. Make sure to preserve the included folder structure. This is usually done by selecting the extract to'... option in Winrar or UnrarX. Be aware that all of our.nki files are compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 2 (version 2.2.4 or later), Kontakt 3 or Kontakt 4 only. Note: The Free Kontakt Player and any bundled Kontakt Players that come included with DAW software, hardware or other sample libraries won't be able to load this library. However, since our wave directories are open, you can translate the patches into whatever format you like. There are a few conversion utilities available that can make the translation process much easier, such as as CDXtract and

8DIO FORGOTTEN VOICES: CAIT OVERVIEW 4 Instrument Categories 49 Kontakt patches (.nki) 2485 Samples 44.1 khz mono & stereo PCM wav format (24 / 16 bit) Bonus Content: Over 40 custom sound-designed ambient drone instruments by Steven Tavaglione, sound design master and one of the world s best jazz instrumentalists. The library has Kontakt-specific features that allow users to control the starting time in the phrase with the modwheel and time-stretch or compressing each sample with the pitch-bender. This approach allows the user to sculpt the phrases to their composition, so general articulation and timing can be made to match each composition very closely. PITCH-CONTROL KEY-SWITCHING All Kontakt, EXS24 and SFZ versions of each instrument allow you to control the root pitch of each note by up to +/- 3 semitones. This is done by using our key-switches. Pressing different key switches will enable the sample to play back at different pitches. The instrument should load with the original root pitch of each sample enabled. Or, to manually activate the default root pitch, just press C0. The key-switch range covers white keys from G-1 (-3 half steps) and up to F0 (+3 half steps). You can easily layer samples using multiple pitches by holding down the sustain pedal (cc64) as you play the sample keys, while also activating different key switches. These are the pitch control key-switches you can use: G -1 = -3 semitones A -1 = -2 semitones B -1 = -1 semitones C 0 = DEFAULT PITCH D 0 = +1 semitones E 0 = +2 semitones F 0 = +3 semitones As these features can be resource intensive and may expose code bugs in recent versions of Kontakt, some users may wish to skip some of these features in order to enjoy greater system performance ans stability. We ve provided dfd disk-streaming versions of each instrument patch for your convenience. You can find them in the dfd sub-folder, in the Kontakt instrument directory. EXS24 PATCHES This library now includes Logic EXS24 sampler format versions of most of the library's core sample banks. The time-stretching and sample offset functionality isn t featured, along with other playability enhancements, but basic features like key-switch pitch control are included. These patches are included as a convenience only. Primary support is still limited to Kontakt for most features and functionality. Some of the bonus ambiences are also not supported, due to old legacy filename length restrictions in the exs format. However, the wavs can still be used manually in any sequencer. GENERAL CONTENT / SONGS Improvisational phrases in self-made language(s) divided into several categories Sanskrit & Vedic Chants Persian / Middle Eastern inspired phrases Balkan inspired phrases Gaelic/Celtic inspired phrases Devotional phrases Romantic phrases Hopeful chanting Frantic and Mournful chanting High pitched (airy / girly) chanting Rhythmic chanting Lullaby s Witch Incantations Vocal percussion FX (ex. vocal shakers, clacks, click, chhh etc) AMBIENCES The library also contains a very large set of vocal ambiences by Steven Tavaglione. These unique ambiences are an amazing addition to the library, made in a way that naturally fits with the singer s voice. Essentially, they were all made entirely using Barbary Grant s voice, though manipulated through a variety of advanced production techniques. Each of the ambiences uses the modwheel to sculpt tone and intensity.

ASATA Asata contains a variety of Sanskrit/Vedic inspired chants. An example of a chant is: Asato Ma Sat Gamaya Tamaso Ma Jyoti Gamah Mrtyu Ma Amrtam Gamaya rough translation: stick to the truth abandon the false out of the darkness into the light death no more undying unborn Please note (Kontakt only) that you can adjust sample start and time stretching by adjusting modwheel and pitch bender on your keyboard, which allows you to sculpt phrases with precision.

BALKAN This patch contains a variety of Balkan inspired vocalizations, which ranges from more high pitched type of vocals to the signature Balkaneese Yoddle technique, which is essentially jumping very high vocal ranges when singing. This technique is used in a variety of cultures, but this particular patch is mostly Balkan sounding. DEVOTIONAL LONG RHYTHMIC MIXED This patch contains longer, rhythmically devotional vocalizations. DU TAKA RHYTHM CHANTING This patch contains a variety of improvisational rhythm chantings - predominantly based on a Du Taka Taka Dum type of rhythm, however with a variety of alternations. Please note you can use pitch-bender and modwheel to off set sample start and time-stretching, so you can make the rhythms fit perfectly in your composition tempo.

FLOATING PITCHED SUSTAIN This patch is your eerie 2001 inspired horror patch. It contains a variety of sustained notes, however there is a mild alternation in pitch, which is floating 1-2 semi tones. So its highly dissonant sounding and great for those I don t know whats about to happen kinda moments, yet beautiful in its own sense. FRANTIC CHANTING This patch contains a variety of frantic singing patches, where the singer expresses more dark, deep sides. HIGH CHANTING LOUD / SOFT / AIRY These patches contains high pitched vocals ranging from loud (FF) to medium (MP) to soft (P) to airy (PP) sounding vocals. The patches have a girly quality to them, since the singer is singing in highest possible registers, which has a sound of innocence to it.

HIGH PITCHED This patch contains the highest pitched vocals from the singer. It is somewhere between an adult and a child. The most innocent, yet haunting sound you will find in the library together with the floating pitched sustains. HOPEFUL CHANTING This patch contains more major-based and less dark phrases. They have a more hopeful, motivating sound then the rest of the library. Open the blinders. Let the sun in. IMPROVISATIONAL SHORT / MEDIUM / LONG These patches contain a great variety of improvisations. The three patches are divided into the length of the phrase. Please note you can use pitch-bender and mod-wheel to off set sample start and time-stretching, so you can make these phrases fit perfectly in your composition tempo.

LONG DEVOTIONAL VOCALS This patch contains long, sustained highly emotional vocalizations. Heart and soul rending beauty. LULLABY IMPROVISATION 1-2 These two patches have a slightly off-kilter lullaby feel. You will find the sound of innocence, but also the sound of something disturbing and not right. Music has this great quality of adapting to circumstance, so you can literally make these lullabies anything from the sweetest dream to the most gruesome nightmare depending on context usage. MIDDLE EASTERN This patch contains a variety of middle eastern traditional scale phrases, which generally tends to contain more quarter notes and quarter notes bends/slurs then most modern and classical western music.

MORNFUL CHANTING 1-2 These patches have the sad, sorrowful and mournful quality to them. MOTH CHICK 1-3 / MOUTH CLICK CLACK All the mouth patches covers a variety of human percussion sounds emulating shakers and other small percussion sounds. So essentially play them like you would play any other percussion instrument or think of them as a human beat box addition to the library. OOH DRONES Soft, dark vocalizations based around the singing of basic vowel tones: OH, OO, OE

RHYTHMIC CHANTING 1-3 These patches contain a variety of different rhythmic chants, which are great for more percussive type of scores, where you need singer to compliment the underlying groove. Please note you can use pitch-bender and mod-wheel to off set sample start and time-stretching, so you can make the rhythms fit perfectly in your composition tempo. ROMANTIC CHANTING 1-3 This patch contains a warmer, heartfelt type of singing. A little more vibrato and gentle, warmer, slurs. SAWEW / SHAWE SHAM These patches contain more Vedic and Sanskrit phrases following the directions from the Asato patches in the library.

SHORT VOCALIZATIONS 1-3 These patches contains a variety of short improvised vocalizations. They are great for building up small melodies and/or rhythmic oriented singing tracks. SITA RAM 1-2 / SITA RAM VAR 1-3 These sets are traditional Indian chants SOFT TO POWERFUL 1-2 These patches contains phrases from soft (P) to powerful (F-FF) allowing the composer to sculpt between the dynamics. WITCHY INCANTATION 1-2 These patches contains very dark and disturbing type of articulations. Cait was able to make sounds that we never believe could come out of a human, so be prepared to enter a very, very dark zone.

CAIT AMBIENT DRONE INSTRUMENTS (BY STEVE TAVAGLIONE) The library also contains 43 bonus ambiences by Steven Tavaglione. The patches are all made from samples of the singer, so they blend seamlessly into the vocal samples. Use the modwheel to control tone and intensity. You can hear the drones in all the official demos for this product.

Special notes Please be advised that there are three major known Kontakt-related bugs to be aware of with several of the patches in this library. They re specific problems within the code base of each version of Kontakt. However, they can usually be corrected by the end user. Our tonemachine (harmonization) and timemachine (timestretching) patches are often the most effected by these Kontakt engine code bugs, while our standard percussion patches are unlikely to have any issues at all. in any version of Kontakt. Also, please be aware that many instrument patches are extremely ram/cpu and harddisk-streaming resource intensive. We recommend that you have at least 2GB of system ram, a dual core cpu and a 7200 rpm SATA hard disk to use 8DIO libraries. Notes to Kontakt 4 users: Large sample sets may load slowly. The cause is not known, but this problem is present when loading a variety of different libraries from a variety of developers. Notes to Kontakt 3.5 users: You may experience popping and clicking due to a bug in the way the Tonemachine and Timemachine features respond to the automation ranges used in these patches. This can sometimes be fixed by manually adjusting the speed control, but there s no full solution available at this time. Kontakt 3.5 is still currently too new and buggy to definitively say all of our instruments are compatible with it. We recommend sticking with Kontakt 2 or 3, at least until version 3.5 has improved. Notes to Kontakt 2.2 users: After loading any of these patches, you may need to move your mod wheel by a small amount in order to activate volume and tone control automation on the modwheel. Once you've done that, the instruments should play normally. This problem is likely due to a bug in the way that Kontakt 2 handles volume envelope automation. Kontakt 2 users may also get an audio pop, followed by full audio drop-out, after if they open some patches using the tonehmachine feature into an empty Kontakt window, especially after another patch has been opened and then closed. This generally won t occur if the patch is the first one loaded into a new instance of Kontakt or if another instrument is also already loaded into the Kontkat window. If a drop-out has occurred, close the instance of Kontakt and re-load it.

REFUNDS Downloaded libraries can't be returned, so we can't provide refunds. We may choose do so at our own discretion,but please be aware that as soon as you've downloaded it, you can't return it. RESPONSIBILITY Using this product and any supplied software is at the licensee s own risk. 8DIO holds no responsibility for any direct or indirect loss arising from any form of use of this product. TERMS This license agreement is effective from the moment the product is installed by any means. The license will remain in full effect until termination. The license is terminated if you break any of the terms or conditions of this agreement, or request a refund for any reason. Upon termination you agree to destroy all copies and contents of the product at your own expense. This license also forbids any re-distribution method of this product, or its sounds, through any means, including but not limited to, re-sampling, mixing, processing, isolating, or embedding into software or hardware of any kind, for the purpose of rerecording or reproduction as part of any free or commercial library of musical and/or sound effect samples and/or articulations, or any form of musical sample or sound effect sample playback system or device. Licenses cannot be transferred to another entity, without written consent of 8DIO, Inc. RIGHTS 8DIO retains full copyright privileges and complete ownership of all recorded sounds, instrument programming, documentation and musical performances included in this product. VIOLATION We don't use any form of DRM software, registration, license keys or other anti-piracy technology. We do this because we love you. That's also one of the reasons our prices are so low, even though it takes a lot of work to make these libraries. The other reason is because we love music almost as much as we love you. If you've done any deep sampling and the labor-intensive programming that comes with it, you know that it is very hard work.
