Keewatin and returning her to Port MNioll, in the Ontario township of Tay. The vessel, whih had been doked in Saugatuk, Mihigan, sine 1967, was one the rown jewel of the mighty Great Lakes fleet of steamships operated by the Canadian Paifi Railway. The Sottish-built S.S. Keewatin was launhed on July 6, 1907. It ould arry 288 passengers and a rew of 86, and ruised at a top speed of 14 knots (nautial miles per hour). The steamship and its sister ship S.S. Assiniboia were the first Great Lakes vessels equipped with radar. They travelled in style: stately features inluded a grand stairase, an elegant Edwardian-era dining saloon, hand-painted Italian glass and oak trim throughout.
