BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Hannah Witt Hadley (1885 1969) was the daughter of Horace M. Hadley (1852 1905) and Elva Witt Hadley 1854 1930.) The family lived in Indianapolis and Hilda attended Shortridge High School followed by three years of college. Bennett F. Witt (1830 1892) was born in Dublin, Wayne County, Indiana. He moved to Indianapolis where he operated several businesses. He was also a Civil War veteran and the grandfather of Hannah Hadley. Sources: Ancestry.com Library Edition. Accessed 2 June 2014. Information in collection. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The majority of the collection centers around Hannah Witt Hadley's trip to Europe from June September 1914, visiting primarily Switzerland and Italy. Included are letters to her family in Indianapolis, a trip diary and trip log, a scrapbook, an extensive trip record book, a trip scrapbook, a photo album and her passport. The letters and diaries describe the locations visited with some historic and geographical background. Also included are literary compositions and writings. Most are undated but were presumably written by Hadley's parents or family members for literary societies or school assignments. Additional items include an unknown letter, Hadley's correspondence regarding membership in the D.A.R, 1913, 1923, and business papers for B. F. Witt including the patent on his harvesting machine, 1860 1870
