Information Sources Slovenian Union Catalogue (COBISS/OPAC) All OHK departmental libraries are virtually joined as one local library catalogue included in the Union Bibliographic/Catalogue Database (COBIB) on COBISS (Co-operative Online Bibliographic System & Services). COBISS/OPAC allows users to search in shared bibliographic databases as well as in local databases of participating libraries (http:// www.cobiss.si/cobiss_eng.html). Classical card catalogues Card catalogues (alphabetical, subject, UDC) are mainly in use for searching for the materials not yet retrospectively catalogued in COBISS. Digital Library Being a member of the University of Ljubljana Library System, OHK can provide access to several licensed and open access sources for its users, the most important ones being: DiKUL (Digital Library of UL: http://dikul.uni-lj.si) with federated search engine, open URL linker and remote access, over 60,000 licensed e-journals, e-books and databases available. Direct access from public computers at all locations of the UL, remote access with a password for UL students and employees, and Digital Library of Slovenia dlib.si (http://dlib.si/?&language=eng) Most of our e-resources are accessible with remote access from outside of University of Ljubljana local networks. OHK FF Digital Library http://www.ff.uni-lj.si/1/ohk/digitalna-knjiznica.aspx OHK FF Digital Library organizes and offers access to electronic resources for all fields of study covered at FFLJ. 5
Internet Internet access is available on public PCs in libraries and halls at the faculty. Access to the EDUROAM wireless internet network is available to all FF students and staff members. New acquisitions bulletin A list of publications newly acquired by all departmental libraries is issued every month in electronic version, available on the OHK website. User education and training, information services Departmental libraries offer various courses, presentations, workshops and individual assistance regarding the use of the libraries and their resources. Subject librarians and information specialists in individual libraries are available to library members for assistance on a daily basis. 6
Library Collections OHK holds an extensive collection 1 of approx. 742,000 volumes, 130,000 visitors a year borrow about 300,000 units. Books: monographs, textbooks, proceedings, research projects, seminar works and undergraduate, masters and doctoral theses, etc. (approx. 649,000 units) Slovene and foreign periodicals about 6,600 current titles (1,801 print only, 4,700 online only, 99 print + online) Special collections of non-book materials: map and pictorial collections, AV and music collections (about 94,000 units) Each departmental library specialises in certain areas of science or arts referring to study programmes and fields of research of the department(s) to which they are affiliated. Library stocks are mainly registered in the COBIB digital catalogue (Union Bibliographic/Catalogue Database), the rest is listed in various card catalogues in every departmental library. Some of the departmental libraries have their holdings arranged by running number and held in closed stacks (closed access libraries), others classified by UDC or other classification systems denoting various subjects or fields of knowledge with at least partial free access shelving. All library materials have a label with a barcode and a shelf mark a code of numbers and words indicating what subject the item covers and where it is shelved. 1 All statistical data taken from the Slovene libraries annual statistical report 2014. 7
Library Membership Exchange students have to apply for library membership in their departmental libraries. By filling in a User Registration Form for Foreign Citizens and by paying a registration fee one automatically becomes a member of all 18 departmental libraries of the Central Humanities Library. When signing the registration form the new member agrees to observe the Library Rules. Student ID serves as a library card and is valid in all libraries of the University of Ljubljana (UL), the Central Technological Library (CTK), and the National and University Library* (NUK). Exchange students are required to return all borrowed library materials and settle all debts in OHK FF by the end of their exchange period. Borrowing materials A valid student ID or a library card is needed for borrowing library materials. A student/ library card is not transferable to another person. Search for bibliographic information in the Union Bibliographic catalogue (COBISS/OPAC) or in the local catalogue (http://www.cobiss.si/cobiss_eng.html) Enter COBISS/OPAC Local databases of libraries Library: FFLJ, choose the appropriate departmental library * users are charged a security deposit for the electronic library card (refundable) 8
Sample search in OHK all departments Write out the entire shelf mark (item details), located at the bottom of the entry, e.g. Slovenistika in slavistika L.A I 2525/91 CANKAR I. Hiša Germanistika 886.3 CANKAR Ivan Ward of Our Lady Present the shelf marks to the librarian at the loan desk. The librarian will bring you the requested items and scan the barcodes. Due dates are recorded on the loan slip. For the materials which have not yet been provided with a barcode, a borrowing slip has to be filled in. 9

Items on loan can be returned to the departmental library during office hours. After office hours they can be inserted into the book return box in front of Room 11 on the ground floor (please make sure that all items drop down properly). The use of the book return box is at your own risk. Reference materials loan Most reference materials can be used in the departmental libraries and in the Common Reading Room.
