The Composition The Molly March is a Second Line piece that I rote or my daughter Molly ack in 2006. Mostly this request came rom Molly hersel in response to her ig sister having a tune named or her ( The Hannah Shule ) ack in 2000! I anted to do something dierent ith this composition, not ust another sing piece. I really like the groove o the Second Line eel, and the harmony is inluenced y the great pop musician Sting, hose music I love. The term Second Line reers to the traditional Ne Orleans uneral procession. The music played as the procession moved rom the church to the cemetery as slo and mournul. olloing the service, the procession leading ack to the church as accompanied y more rousing music. assersy and others ho ere not a part o the uneral oten oined this part o the procession, orming a second line ehind the original mourners. In preparing the piece, ork or a light eel in the rhythm section, especially ith the Drummer. The Second Line groove is generated primarily y the snare, e careul on the volume. On the ridge at measure 25, the groove changes up slightly - almost to a Hip Hop eel, returning to the Second Line at measure 41. Keep the and volume under the muted Trumpets ust prior to the solo section. On the Sax soli at measure 111, encourage the Lead Alto to dig in and e aggressive ith tons o support rom the hole section. As the piece uilds toards the inal shout at measures 14 and 151, ork or and alance at the high dynamic level and have the drums really go ater kicking the and s igures. As the chart inds don, have the Saxes stagger reathe to keep the chord sounding until the inal resolution. I hope that you ind this piece as interesting as Molly does, and that your group enoys putting it together. Best o luck! Craig Instrumentation List 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Trumpet 1 1 1 1 Tromone 1 1 1 1 1
