MUSICIAN BIOGRAPHIES Timothy Albrecht holds a tripartite appointment at Emory as university organist and professor in both the Department of Music and Candler School of Theology. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Eastman School of Music, he performs throughout the United States and Europe, has 12 volumes of published organ music, and has recorded nine compact discs. Bulgarian pianist Elena Cholakova has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South America, and the United States. She performs with members of the New York Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and she has appeared in the International Chamber Music Festival in San Miguel de Allende and the International Days of Music Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She is an artist affiliate at Emory. Vega String Quartet violinist Elizabeth Fayette, praised by the New York Times for her alluring, lustrous sound and seasoned virtuosity, made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Juilliard Orchestra under conductor Alan Gilbert. She is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, as well as a recent participant at the Marlboro Music Festival and School. Bradley Howard, director of vocal studies at Emory, enjoys a career spanning the classical and modern choral works, solo recitals, and operatic roles. Howard has developed a repertoire of some of opera s most classic roles, including Mozart s Tamino in The Magic Flute and Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte; his concert engagements have included Beethoven s Ninth Symphony and Andrew Lloyd Webber s Requiem. Recently, he served as a voice teacher at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Maiori, Italy. William Ransom appears around the world as soloist with orchestras, recitalist, and chamber musician. He is the Emerson Professor of Piano at Emory where he is director of piano studies and founder and artistic director of the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Ransom is artistic director of the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival and the Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival. Don E. Saliers, William. R. Cannon Distinguished Professor of Theology, Emeritus, is currently teaching as theologian-in-residence at Emory s Candler School of Theology. He is cofounder of the Emory Chamber Players, a liturgical composer, national chaplain to the American Guild of Organists, and a prolific author. He is also a lover of Bach, hiking, and jazz. 3

Guang Wang, a founding member of the Vega String Quartet, began his cello studies in Shenyang, China, at age eight. After graduating from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he joined the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra as the youngest assistant principal cellist. He has toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia; performed in the world s major concert halls; and his performances have been heard on NPR s Performance Today, Shanghai TV, Radio France, and France Musiques. A founding member of the Vega String Quartet, quartet in residence at Emory, Jessica Shuang Wu has performed throughout North America, Asia, and Europe, and she has been broadcast on NPR s Performance Today, Radio France, and the National Radio of China. Her concert appearances include the quartet s Lincoln Center debut; performances at the Weill and Zankel Recital Halls, and Issac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall; Highlands Festival in North Carolina; Aspen Music Festival; and many others. MUSIC AT EMORY The Department of Music at Emory University provides an exciting and innovative environment for developing knowledge and skills as a performer, composer, and scholar. Led by a faculty of more than 60 nationally and internationally recognized artists and researchers, our undergraduate and graduate students experience a rich diversity of performance and academic opportunities. Undergraduate students in our department earn a BA in music with a specialization in performance, composition, or research, many of whom simultaneously earn a second degree in another department. True to the spirit of Emory, a liberal arts college in the heart of a research university, our faculty and ensembles also welcome the participation of non-major students from across the Emory campus. Become a part of Music at Emory by giving to the Friends of Music. Your gift provides crucial support to all of our activities.
