ROGRAM NOTES Long Road Out of Eden, the Eagles latest album, took nearly six years to produce and as fi nally released in 2007 It is the fi rst studio album from this musical group since 1979 Victor López has arranged the title track, hich has the same name as the album, for Beginning Band and made it very playable at that level Long Road Out of Eden has been number one on Billboards around the globe and as many ould say, this is a killer album for the Eagles NOTES TO THE CONDCTOR Very seldom do riters have an opportunity to fi nd a pop title that fi ts ust right at the beginning level Hoever, Long Road Out of Eden seems to be that selection Before starting the rehearsal, have each player go through the part to see if there are any notes that they have not learned yet Once the spot check is done, then proceed When rehearsing the piece, if it is needed, slo don the tempo initially The entire selection is to be played legato and ith a great deal of breath support Young players may have to be reminded frequently as they tend to play choppy The arrangement begins ith a moving part in the oboe, clarinet and alto saxophone parts hile the remainder of the ensemble sustains hole notes Ensure that the notes are held to their fullest value and that breaths are taken in-beteen notes every to measures As it is frequently the case ith beginning band repertoire, every part has been doubled to provide the necessary support throughout the piece At measure 9, the trumpet and clarinet have the melody the fi rst time ith sustained parts in the background lease note that at measure 17, the fl ute and oboe alays play When repeating back to measure 9, the fl ute and oboe no oin in playing the melody The percussion parts have the essential elements of a rock style Although the clave is not typically used in the rock idiom, it has been included in this arrangement for rhythmic support Continue to stress the basics; articulation, balance and intonation Explain that hen playing sloer tempos, there is greater exposure to errors than there is ith fast tempos Again, continue to remind the performers of the necessary breath support for proper phrasing Enoy!
