We will have a Junior and Senior Division. The same rules apply to both the Junior and Senior Division Junior Division ages 8 12 years old. You must be 8 years old by September 04, 2016. There will be ten (10) finalists in the Junior Division. There will be three (3) cash prizes for the Junior Division: 1 st Place $350.00. 2 nd Place $200.00. 3 rd Place $100.00 Senior Division ages 13 28 years old. You must be 13 years old by September 04, 2016. We will have fifteen (15) finalists in the Senior Division. There will be three (3) cash prizes for the Senior Division: 1 st Place $1000.00. 2 nd Place $500.00. 3 rd Place $250.00. Guest Judge Sunday, September 04, 2016** For the Preliminary round, we will have guest judge Cesar Rocha from New York, NY! Cesar is the main casting director for Telsey Casting. Telsey Casting is the #1 casting agency for all Broadway plays and musicals. While Cesar is here, he will also be auditioning people for New York!! 2 OVERVIEW Star of the Fair seeks to showcase the top vocalists in the Mid-South. (Contestants must be 8 to 28 years old on or before September 04, 2016) All who wish to enter the competition must pre-register by faxing or mailing the Entry Form located on the last page of this packet. The only fee to enter is $35 which includes free admission to the Delta Fair & Music Festival on Sunday, September 04, 2016 the first round of tryouts. The top 15 finalists from the Senior Semi Final Competitions, and the top 10 from the Junior Division, will compete in the Final Competition at the Delta Fair & Music Festival (www.deltafest.com) on Tuesday, September 06, 2016 at 7:00pm on the Main Stage. The Star of the Fair winner will be determined by judging and crowd response. There will be a category that says audience response. SCHEDULE Entry Form is available online @ www.deltafest.com. Sunday, September 04, 2016: @ 1:00pm Final registration ($50) at the door, cash only. Sunday, September 04, 2016 All pre-registered competitors will need to arrive at the Delta Fair & Music Festival at 1:00p.m. to be given a tryout number. There will be a list of contestant s names at the ticket booth at entrance #3 off of Walnut Grove to get you into the Delta Fair. No other entrance will allow you free admission. Competitors will gather in the Auditorium in the Agricenter and Round 1 tryouts will begin at 2:00pm. The judges will announce who has made it to the semi-finals on Sunday, September 04, 2016 at the conclusion of the show. Semi-Finals will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 05, 2016 at 2:00pm. Sunday, September 04, 2016: The semi-finalists will be given a ticket for the semi-finals which will also get them back into the Delta Fair at no cost on Monday, September 05, 2016 - entrance allowed only at Gate #3 off of Walnut Grove Rd.
Monday, September 05, 2016: The semi-finalists will need to arrive at the Delta Fair & Music Festival at 1:00 pm. They will then gather in the Auditorium in the Agricenter where the semi-finals will begin at 2:00pm. At the end of this day, approximately 6:00 pm, the Finalists will be announced. - Ten (10) for the Junior Division and Fifteen (15) for the Senior Division. The Finalists will compete head to head on the Main Stage Tuesday night, September 06, 2016 starting at 7:00pm to determine the Star of the Fair Winner for 2016. 3 THE COMPETITION PROCESS Round 1 You may sing a one (1) minute a capella song or use a karaoke/music track on CD that is one (1) minute. We will begin to time you from the first vocal utterance. The semi final round on Monday, September 05, 2016 will be a karaoke/music Track in CD format not to exceed two (2) minutes or you may again sing a cappella. The Finals will be a Karaoke/Music Track in CD format only. Finalists will need to arrive by 4:30pm on Tuesday, September 06, 2016 and will need their performance music track in the form of CD format only. Bring two (2) copies of the CD. Each Finalist will perform one routine (no longer than 5 minutes in length) and will be judged on crowd response and judges point system. Alternates will be determined from each Semi-Final Competition in the event a contestant does not meet the STAR OF THE FAIR requirements. Star of the Fair, Expo South, FM 100, and Entercom Radio are not responsible for lost, stolen, mangled, mis-delivered, illegible, incomplete or late entries. One person will be awarded the grand prize. REQUIREMENTS TO ENTER THE STAR OF THE FAIR You are a legal U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident who is eligible to work full-time in the United States; and if you are in the Final competition at the Delta Fair & Music Festival on Tuesday, September 06, 2016, you MUST be able to demonstrate prior to the final round that you do not have a professional recording contract. WHAT TO BRING TO THE SEMI FINAL COMPETITIONS Identification: If you are questioned about your age, you must have in possession one form of proof of age. Failure to do so could result in disqualification at the end. Release: Print out and sign the release form provided at www.deltafest.com Under 18: If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian. If you are accompanied by a legal guardian (as opposed to a parent), your legal guardian must bring proof of guardianship or you will not be able to audition. In addition, your parent or legal guardian must have the authority to sign documents on your behalf, including the release form on the website (which should be signed by you and your parent and/or legal guardian, as indicated on the form).
4 Disqualifications: We reserve the right to disqualify and/or exclude, in our sole and absolute discretion, any individual from any of the auditions for any reason or for no reason at all, including without limitation, violation of any portion of these rules, or tampering with the entry process or the audition process. We also reserve the right to change the rules and procedures at any time. Being chosen to compete at any level in the process does NOT ensure that you will be selected to continue to the next stage. 6 **The 2016 guest judge for the 1 st round of the Star of the Fair Competition will be: Cesar A. Rocha Cesar A. Rocha, CSA - Originally from Miami, Florida, Cesar attended the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music (CCM) in the Theatre Design and Production program concentrating in stage management. Cesar has been a part of Telsey + Company since 2009. He has worked on numerous projects while at Telsey + Company. Some of these include Cirque Du Soleil's PARAMOUR, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY THE MUSICAL National Tour, PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES at Paper Mill Playhouse, WEST SIDE STORY at Paper Mill Playhouse, WICKED, PRISCLLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, INTO THE WOODS with Meryl Streep, SMASH on NBC and various other Theatre and TV/FILM projects with Telsey + Company. He is on the NY board of the Casting Society of America. Cesar has also appeared on the Lifetime reality series DANCE MOMS. You will be given a four (4) minute time slot on Sunday, September 4 th or Monday September 5 th to present a one (1) minute monologue, a thirty (30) second commercial and answer questions that Cesar will ask. You will have to have a headshot with a resume stapled to the back to hand to Cesar. Telsey Casting is the #1 casting company for ALL Broadway shows, Broadway plays, and the Touring shows (like those that come to the Orpheum). Cesar recently cast the movie Into the Woods with Meryl Streep! Telsey Casting handle s 60% of all of Broadway casting. Cesar is the main casting director and takes the kids all the way up to the producer s callbacks. Of course, those doing the Star of the Fair vocal competition will have already sung for him and he will be provided the names of each person on his scoring sheets and will make personal comments for himself. Each participant will have to pay $25.00 for a slot to do their monologue, commercial, hand off their resume and answer questions. Cesar has been known to bring people up to NYC for an audition without them having an agent or a manager. The acting audition is for ages 8 and up. For those that do not sing, you can do the acting audition without entering the vocal contest. Those of you that are only doing the acting audition will all be scheduled on Labor Day- Monday, September 5 th, 2016. Please respond to the acting audition by email ONLY!
