[Issue] :: [Date] In Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Title byline [Name] Martin Luther King Jr. is the man that had a dream that black and white people could be friends instead of enemies and said so in his speech on August 28, 1963. He wanted everybody to be together and not to be enemies. He didn t think it was fair that white people could do more things than black people could do. He didn t like that Rosa Parks was told to give up her seat for a white person, and even worse, when she said no, they took her to jail. His I Have a Dream speech is one of the most important in history and resonates with us even today. He died on April 4, 1968, when he was shot while standing on the second floor balcony of his hotel. Issue [#] :: [Date] Bullying How Did It Make You Feel? By Jalen Introduction How does it make you feel when you are being mistreated? First, it s important to tell the teacher about the person who s bullying you. Bullies can go anywhere to push and hit you, if the bully is mistreating you, tell them to stop. It s not okay to do that. It s not okay Bullying can get worse like spilling milk. Bullying can make someone feel hurt. It can be physical and mental abuse. What Should You Do? 1. Tell an adult 2. Don t retaliate 3. Walk away 4. Wait and cool down A non-bullying person is: 1. Kind 2. Respectful of others 3. Friends Stop the bullying right now 1. It s not safe 2. It s not respectful 3. Someone could get hurt 4. Focus on peace, kindness, and calm 3
[Issue] :: [Date] Heroes The cold outside Some people like superheroes, Some like super villains. I myself like both. Without one there is not another. With too many villains the world would be controlled by them. With too many heroes everyone would feel overprotected. So when people fight about good or bad, I sometimes find myself in the middle. Valentine s Day What Does it Mean? St. Valentine s Day is on February 14th. There are 36 billion heart shaped boxes. There are 50 million roses sold on Valentine s Day and 85% of cards are sold on this day along with 27% of roses. There are 1 billion Valentine s Day cards and men spend an average of $130.00 on Valentine s gifts. Valentine s Day means telling someone special that you love them. [Issue] :: [Date] My Grandpa By Andrew My grandfather, Captain Allen Cobb, worked on the USS Donner where the first living animal, Ham the chimpanzee, went up into space. He took him out of the shuttle and he is the one who fed the apple to him. He also worked on the ferry and had to jump off it so he could save people because the people s boat was sinking and they were about to drown. He saved them and they said he was a hero. He told them, I m not a hero. I just do what God tells me. I lived with him since I was nine months old. I wish he were still here. He died November 21, 2015. My family and I still want him here but we know he is in a better place. PARASYTE REVIEW By Jaheim Parasyte is a science horror manga series/anime full of monsters attacking across the world. The character named Shinichi, a 17 year-old who was half mutated with a worm like creature. Eventually the creature can mutate with shinichi hand if there's any kind out there for shinichi companion migi. The worm that shinichi in his arm was friendly but the rest of them were not. The Parasytes are creatures of unknown origin, which starts off as worm-like creatures that instinctively enter the body of the nearest life form and travel to the brain to completely assimilate it while destroying the host s identity in the process. From there, using the vital organs of the host bodies to survive, the Parasyte would be driven with a need to kill humans and Parasytes with failed host bodies. While most Parasytes initially acted alone causing a chain of multiple grisly deaths coined the mincemeat murders, they eventually form groups for safety in numbers. 6 By the time of the final chapter, Shinichi speculating that they might have been created as an evolutionary countermeasure to humans, the surviving Parastes are assumed to have gone into hiding and adopt themselves further into human society to keep their activities to a minimum.
Issue [#] :: [Date] Poetry Corner You Broke Me You broke me By calling me names and hurting me on the inside so much that I couldn t take it anymore. You broke and made me shatter so much I m screaming in my sleep every night. You shattered me so much I m no longer smiling, showing no emotion and I'm now always crying when you laugh or snicker at me. You shattered me so much I m wanting to scream and yell it's not ok to break me cause you're making my life a living nightmare, just like you want so I shall no longer wish to be friends with you. My Heart Beats For You By Destiny When I see you my heart goes bump-bump You make it race like a fast Racecar going 60 miles But when you say hi I get nervous and feel butterflies in my stomach But your smile makes my day Shine like shooting stars But when you pass by my heart Yearns for your touch of sweetness But I can t help but feel nervous When you say hi to me it s just How I show my feelings for you Cause my heart beats for you. That s ok you just keep my heart hurting I look at you with tears in my eyes but You don t care and that s all right Cause the more you break my heart the More it shatters. You know it s going to stop working soon and that will be all your fault because You broke me so much that I can t be fixed Not even once all because my heart cries. Battle of the Books The Battle of the Books team (also known as BOB) has an upcoming competition on February 16,2017. The team has been reading and practicing to get ready for the competition. The team is hoping to bring home the trophy for CGMS. I hope as a member of the Battle of the Books team that our team is able and highly prepared to show the other schools of Brunswick county that Cedar Grove Middle School is full of intelligent students. Jalen B. - Reporter CGMS Band By Jalen B. The Bulldogs have a lot of new musical talent this year from the 6th grade beginning band. They have just had a band concert on December 13th, 2016. They will have a 2nd band concert this spring. I am actually one of the 6th graders that performed in the band. I was the final speaker and I dropped the microphone. I hope that more people will join the band with their friends to make band even more fun. 8
