Or do you want pick up where you left off and remind yourself of what it s like to have music in your life again? The VCM offers several courses for adults of any age and any level, whether you re an absolute beginner or you know a bit about music already. Try your hand at music in a non-intimidating, fun environment at the VCM! Adult Beginner Classes Please bring an instrument to the first class, where applicable. Perhaps you ve taken lessons but have been unable to play without hours of practice and the music in front of you, and now you can t remember anything? s innovative method will have you playing the piano in just even if you ve never played before using a chordal approach. We learn to read simple fake book notation and add appropriate left hand accompaniments to several styles of music, while learning to also play by ear. It is one of the most rewarding ways to make music. Working together with other musicians is a great way to improve your overall musicianship and play some of the great works written for small ensembles. Whether you have a pre-formed group or are interested in finding other players of similar ability and interest, we can help. Adult Intermediate & Advanced Classes When you d like to take your musical skills to new levels, we have something for you! Fantasias and Canzonas A class for recorders and strings (violin, viola, cello, viol) that explores the development of 17th century English polyphony. The music of Morely, Simpson, Lawes, Jenkins, and Purcell will be studied. While the music is not technically difficult, sight reading ability and working knowledge of C, G, F, D, and B-flat scales is required. Stacey Boal 6 weeks $120 CE 402 13 Mon 3:00-4:00pm Oct 3 - Nov 14 Trio Sonatas A class for recorders, flutes, oboes, violins and cellos. The music of Telemann and Corelli will be the vehicle for exploring the particular challenges (and rewards!) of combining winds and strings. Modern pitch will be used (A=440). For string players, a Baroque bow is an asset but not required. If you want to hone your skills and practice performing in front of a friendly and supportive audience the VCM Adult Recital Group is for you! Participants must be performers, but no one is required to perform at every recital. New members may observe once or twice before performing. After that, members perform only when they feel ready. In the interest of those who are not yet completely comfortable performing, friends, spouses and teachers are not invited to the performances. The group meets one Sunday per month, September through May (except December). Music Appreciation and Music History The VCM offers a range of classes for those interested in enhancing their appreciation and understanding of music.
