2 The Comoser Brian Balmages (. 1975) is an award-winning comoser, conductor, roducer, and erormer. He holds a achelor's degree in music rom James Madison University and a master's degree rom the University o Miami in lorida. His comositions have een erormed worldwide at the state, national and international level. His active schedule o commissions and remieres has incororated grous ranging rom elementary schools to roessional ensemles, including the Baltimore Symhony Orchestra, Miami Symhony Orchestra, University o Miami Wind Ensemle, Boston Brass, and the Dominion Brass Ensemle. In 2012, Mr. Balmages received the restigious Alert Austin Harding Award rom the American School Band Directors Association. He is also a 2010 winner o the Harvey G. hillis Award or Comositional Excellence, resented y the International -Euhonium Association. As a conductor, Mr. Balmages enjoys engagements with numerous all-state and regional honor ands and orchestras along with university and roessional grous. Notale guest conducting aearances have included the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, National Association or Music Educators, American School Band Directors Association, CBDNA, the Kennedy Center, and Meyerho Symhony Hall. He has also served as an Adjunct roessor o Instrumental Conducting and Acting Symhonic Band Director at Towson University in Maryland. Currently, Mr. Balmages is the Director o Instrumental ulications or The JH Music Comany Inc. in ort Lauderdale, lorida. He resides in Baltimore with his wie Lisa and their two sons. Aout the Music This un and somewhat whimsical dance deicts a roken marionette that is attemting to dance, ut ecause o tangled strings and other rolems, is not ale to do so roerly. As quickly as the 2nd measure, strings egin to tangle and the music ortrays the struggles o the roken marionette. Eventually, it aears that the marionette has ound its way, only to unravel comletely as the music seeks to convey the inal awkward movements o this oor character as the curtain comes down. One last hurrah hels ut a smile on the aces in the audience just eore the curtain closes.
