April 2016 May 5th Coffee House to feature music, tacos and ice cream! Cinco de Mayo is the theme for the Iowa Lakes Spring Coffee House on Thursday, May 5 beginning at 6:00 p.m. (note the earlier start time). Free tacos will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with an ice cream sundae bar beginning at 7:00 p.m. Lemonade and coffee will also be provided, all in appreciation for the overwhelming support for the Music Department this past year. Graduating music students will be recognized and featured will be the Iowa Lakes jazz band, jazz singers, women s and men s ensembles and concert choir. Area community members will also be joining them. Come and enjoy this relaxing, enjoyable evening of live music and food! Admission is free and is open to the public. Special thanks to the Estherville Student Senate for helping sponsor this event.! Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir will present a free concert for area residents on Sunday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend the performance to be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 3501 Hill Avenue, in Spirit Lake. The Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir is an ensemble which performs on a five-octave range, from C3 to C8, of Schulmerich handbells. The bells are made of bronze and range in weight from four ounces to 10 pounds. The Choir also supplements handbells with a five-octave set of handchimes. Many different handbell techniques, from the singing bowl to gyro effect, are on display in a program that covers a wide variety of music. Free will donations are accepted toward the purchase of new bass handchimes.

Music in the Air on cultural trip to San Antonio The Iowa Lakes music students recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas for their annual cultural trip. They attended a number of events and historical places including the Fiesta San Antonio Music Festival, The Alamo, a Riverwalk Cruise and mariachi band festival on the Riverwalk.
Sioux City Orpheum Theatre Saturday, April 16, 2016 Iowa Lakes Chamber Choir performs Beethoven s 9th with massed choir and the Sioux City Symphony Iowa Lakes students pose prior to their performance for the sold out audience at the Sioux City Orpheum Theatre. They joined voices with Briar Cliff University, Morningside College, Northwestern College, University of South Dakota, Western Iowa Tech Community College, the Sioux County Oratorio and the Siouxland Master Chorale to perform Beethoven s 9th Symphony, composed in 1824, and considered one of Beethoven greatest works.
Spring Tour to Hinton Schools On Monday, April 18 the Iowa Lakes music students took their show on the road to area high schools. The purpose of the trip was to show younger students the importance of having music in their lives now and the impact it can have on their future. This year the group traveled to Hinton Community Schools where they performed for over 300 students. Performing were the handbell choir, jazz band, jazz singers, women s ensemble, men s ensemble and concert choir under the direction of Carol Ayres and Brett Fuelberth.
Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Thanks to everyone who attended our 2016 musical production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Also, many thanks to everyone involved.
