SDCRS NEWSLETTER Next meeting: February 20, 2016 Website: www.sandiegocountyrecordersociety.org The San Diego County Recorder Society (SDCRS) is a chapter of the national American Recorder Society, and has been in existence since 1972. A membership organization, SDCRS supports the recreational playing and public performance of recorders and other early music instruments through monthly play sessions, recorder instruction, workshops and pro-bono public concerts. The SDCRS has operated in the past with leadership delegated formally to a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, Refreshments Coordinator, and Web Master. Since the succession to these offices was not completed formally at the last SDCRS season s final meeting, the future leadership of the SDCRS will be in the form of an SDCRS Executive Committee, currently consisting of Harvey Winokur, Vanessa Evans, Hugh Wade, Susan Neumeyer, and Maggie Fowlie. The intention of the Executive Committee is to have our SDCRS operate in much the same manner as in the past. We will continue to have regular monthly meetings, guest conductors, refreshments at regular meetings and free recorder instruction when there is sufficient interest. We plan to schedule a SDCRS workshop on October 22, 2016 (keep that date open) If any SDCRS member wishes to become a member of the SDCRS Executive Committee, please contact one of the current members whose contact information is given later in this newsletter. All inputs are welcome. FEBRUARY 20, 2016 GUEST CONDUCTOR: SANDRA STRAM Sandra Stram began playing early music in 1983 as a member of the Collegium Musicum at SDSU, playing violin and recorder. She later began viol studies with Peter Farrell and John Dornenburg, and completed a Master of Music degree in Viol Performance at SDSU in 1996. Sandra has taught strings/orchestra for Sweetwater Union High School District, Poway Unified, Arrowbear Music Camp and Civic Youth Orchestra. She currently teaches string and recorder classes in San Diego City schools and has conducted the San Diego Recorder Festival for the past 5 years. She performs on violin and viol throughout the San Diego area, and on fiddle with the Bayou Brothers, the Swamp Critters and Judy Taylor s Wild Oats. She also plays viola da gamba, vielle, recorder and krummhorn and sings soprano with the local Early Music Consort Courtly Noyse. The picture shows Sandra in early music costume for a performance with Courtly Noyse.. MUSIC PROGRAM FOR FEBRUARY 20 SDCRS MEETING Sandra has selected a varied program of music for the February 20 SDCRS meeting. Composers are Antegnati, Demantius, Handel, and Simpson. Files (PDF) of this music will be provided as attachments to a separate E-mail from the E-mail that transmits this newsletter. Players are strongly urged to download and print copies of this music for their use at the meeting. Only a limited amount of extra printed music will be available at the meeting.
