BASIC INFORMATION With its roots in workshops starting in 1970 Vivace has been helping high school to develop their performance and leadership skills for decades. The West Chester location is the oldest and most established clinic of its kind. Each year the staff and clinicians are eager to provide each student a superior experience continue to earn the reputation of excellence behind this program. Registration & Deadlines Registration is available online at Vivaceproductions.com or via mail with respect to the following deadlines: Kutztown Workshop (July 6-9): Postmarked by June 25th Online by June 26th West Chester Workshop (July 25-28): Postmarked by July 9th Online by July 11th Registrations received after these dates are not guaranteed and subject to a $20 late registration fee. Housing and Supervision Students stay on campus in air conditioned dorms. They are taught and supervised by a staff of music professionals aided by college music ed counselors who remain in the dorms and are available to the students 24 hours a day. Early Arrival An Early Arrival option is available for any participant who needs to arrive early. Early check-in is the evening of July 5 for Kutztown and the evening of July 24 for West Chester. Vivace may also be found on Facebook or Twitter @vivaceworkshops Instruments and Equipment With the exception of front ensemble (pit) percussion, students are required to bring their own instruments and equipment (not necessary for the 2 Day Band Leadership Training). Drum Majors do not need instruments but are encouraged to bring a mace if they wish. Directors must bring their own computers with their design and music software. They are also encouraged to bring colorguard equipment to participate in available hands on sessions. Group Registrations Contact the office regarding group registration programs for schools with 5 or more students attending. Cancellations and Refunds Cancellations and refund requests must be made by two weeks prior to the workshop. A cancellation fee of $50 will be charged. Refunds will not be granted to students cancelling within the two week deadline.
Workshop Sessions George N. Parks Drum Major Academy Available at both locations, DMA is THE leading program for developing confident and skilled drum majors for any program. Over 35 years the curriculum has been developed and adapted to focus on conducting, teaching and leading / communication techniques. Students are provided the tools they need to fill the position as a role model for the band. Every student receives personalized instruction from a nationally sourced staff. A necessity for current or aspiring drum majors! Percussion For the section leader or percussionist looking to improve themselves while working with other enthusiastic percussionists. Students work with Collegiate and DCI instructors to focus on developing an array of percussion technique including uniform sticking, dynamic control and rehearsal technique. Percussion is available at both locations with the added availability of a specific workshop for front ensemble instruments at the West Chester location. Color Guard For colorguard students of all levels on flag, rifle or saber; a full ensemble experience. Participants select a primary equipment to focus on and are given opportunity to explore new equipment as well as dance, coreography and the fundamentals of show design. Taught by the renown staff of West Chester s Incomparable Golden Rams Color Guard at both locations, the workshop guarantees to motivate, inspire and improve performance skills. Band Available at the West Chester location and taught by the staff of the West Chester Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band the band workshop is for brass and woodwind players of all experience levels. Section leaders and enthusiastic band members exercise and apply musicianship and marching skills. Students also focus on the development of leadership and communication skills to help with the cleaning of marching and drill. Twirler Twirlers of all levels are welcome to this workshop to learn and develop a variety of fundamentals and skills that are essential to the unique art of baton twirling. Single and multiple baton techniques are exercised and applied. All students participate in a Leadership and Motivation session in addition to having leadership be a continuous theme across all the workshop programs.
