Please support the Aidlin-Rees Apts/Rudolf Ising Residence. File: 17-1213 Doug Appleton Jan 13, 2018 9:16 AM As an animation artist, background painter, and illustrator for over thirty years, I fully support the Historic Monument designation for Rudolf Ising s home at 106 South Kings Road, file 17-1213. I find it hard to express the huge influence Rudy Ising has had in the animation industry. Without him, there would be no Looney Tunes, no Yogi Bear, no Tom and Jerry. If you study animation history, there might not even be a Mickey Mouse! Without Rudy Ising, Porky Pig would be silent at the end - instead we have "That s all Folks! His Oscar winning film The Milky Way would have been in production during the time he lived on Kings Road - the first non-disney animation to win an Academy Award! Rudy was at the pinnacle of his career during the time he lived at 106 S Kings Road. Much like today, with budget cost cuttings, he was thrown out of MGM like so much old trash, but came back again with a vengeance. The world should know - the Golden Age of Animation would not be the same without Rudy Ising. Please save his home on Kings Road! Doug Appleton dougappleton1@gmail.com 360 S. File: 17 1213 Catherine Jurca Jan 13, 2018 1:46 PM I support the designation of the Rudolf Ising Residence at 106 S Kings Road as a Historic Cultural Monument. As a professional film historian I think it is important to remember and to honor Los Angeles's most important gifts to the world, which are its entertainment exports. The building is eligible for its association with Ising. It is also a good example of a Streamline Moderne apartment building, an increasingly rare resource type in Los Angeles. I hope you will support the nomination of this historically significant property! Thank you for your consideration. File: 17-1213 Carolyn Hittleman Jan 13, 2018 6:13 PM I support the nomination of the Rudolf Ising Residence at 106 S Kings Road as a Historic Cultural Monument. We live in view of this beautiful 1936 Streamline Moderne apartment building and walk our dog by it regularly. It is located on the east side of Kings Road, which is completely original late 1930's buildings. The west side of this block has been devastated by Wiseman Residential, who now wants to tear down this building. We love the historic feel of this rare L.A. neighborhood and urge you to please help preserve that history and this neighborhood by designating 106 S. Kings Road - The Aidlin-Rees Apartments - a Historic Cultural Monument. This HCM is fully supported by the Cultural Heritage Commission.
