THANKS TO THE PENNNSYLVANIA ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTING, WPVI WAS PROVIDED WITH A SPECIAL DTV BOOTH AND LITERATURE TO HAND OUT TO THE PUBLIC DURING THE RACE. THE DTV BOOTH WAS SET UP WITHIN THE WPVI TENT INSIDE OF THE MAIN VENDOR EXHIBIT CONCOURSE, WHICH WAS LOCATED ACROSS FROM THE PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART. HANK VOLPE, VP/DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING, MANNED THE BOOTH AND SET UP A FUNCTIONING DISPLAY WITH A PORTABLE ANTENNA, DTT-900 DECODER BOX AND A TV SET TO DEMONSTRATE HOW TO HOOK UP A CONVERTER. THERE WERE ALSO HANDOUTS, PREPARED BY THE PA ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTING, DETAILING THE CONVERSION AND HOW TO APPLY FOR A DTV COUPON. THE DTV BOOTH WAS SET UP FOR 4 HOURS (FROM 8:00 AM TO 12:00 NOON), AND 81 VIEWERS STOPPED BY. SOME HAD VERY DETAILED QUESTIONS; OTHERS WERE JUST CURIOUS. HANK VOLPE HEARD FROM ABOUT 10 PEOPLE THAT THE CABLE COMPANIES WERE STILL TRYING TO SELL THEM DIGITAL CABLE BOXES UNDER THE GUISE THAT IT WAS REQUIRED IN ORDER FOR THEM TO GET RECEPTION AFTER THE CONVERSION.
