HOME NEWS EVENTS OFFERS FERS CONTACT Welcome to the Cymbiosis Newsletter Welcome to the Cymbiosis summer 2013 newsletter. This is our quarterly newsletter giving you the latest news, offers and events straight to your inbox. Welcome to the summer edition of the Cymbiosis newsletter. It has been a busy few months for us here with the announcement of lots of new products as well as Peters visit to the USA and Canada to see clients and demonstrate and install products. We have also introduced more helpful enhancements to our ever growing website with the introduction of the Harban in-stock gallery with pictures showing the wide range of Chris Harban Woodsong plinths we actually have in stock here at Cymbiosis. With the great weather of the recent bank holidays we are guessing that most people are getting outdoors and enjoying the May sunshine, but if you want to be entised back to your systems here are some of our latest announcements and releases that will whet your appetite to get back to listening to your music... First things first, way back in February Linn announced that the iconic Akiva cartridge would be discontinued, and in March they announced its replacement...the Kandid. One of the key performance improvements of the Kandid over the Akiva comes as a result of removing the cartridge housing. More accurate audio reproduction is achieved thanks to the repositioning of the stylus and cantilever within the body of the cartridge. The angle of the magnets and coil in the front pole piece has been off-set so that the
stylus is parallel to the record when playing which ensures perfect alignment for precise movement on the record. The Kandid was first demonstrated at our Linn Kandid Klinik in April when George Clegg from Linn joined the Cymbiosis team to demonstrate exactly what the new Linn flagship cartridge can do. The Kandid is now very hot property but if you do fancy a demonstration please do feel free to contact Peter. More information on the Linn Kandid can be found on our cartridges page. As mentioned earlier, April brought the arrival of the Chris Harban in-stock gallery. This was an area of the website that we had been looking to expand for a while, and give people real time information and photography of the exact plinths that we have in-stock from Chris. The gallery has taken the principles of our very popular offers page to make enquiring about specific plinths quick and easy. Whether you are looking to update your LP12 or not, why not have a look at our in-stock gallery and some of Chris s stunning plinths if you have a few spare minutes by clicking here. April also brought the introduction of the highly anticipated HDVD800 headphone amplifier from Sennheiser. The HDVD800 is the perfect partner for Sennheiser s flagship HD800 headphones and takes headphone replay to another level. The HDVD800 is able to connect with digital sources and is equipped with a high-quality Burr-Brown digital/analogue converter (DAC) that converts digital audio data into analog signals with a resolution of up to 24/192 KHz. This allows it to be used with a range of CD and DVD players. In April, at a dealer conference in Guilford, Linn released their latest loudspeaker offering, the Akubarik. The Akubarik is the latest speaker in the Akurate range and builds upon technologies used in both the Majik Isobarik and the reference 350A loudspeakers. With Aktiv analogue filters and Chakra power amplification all on one board the Akubarik, the circuit layout is optimised for the shortest signal path, eliminating interconnections and reducing noise. Powered by the latest generation Dynamik, the loudspeaker is completely silent, thanks to efficient, passive cooling without the need for a fan! The Akubarik features Linn's 3K array which houses the mid-range, tweeter & super-tweeter drive units close together to replicate a single point source with wide dispersion Building upon and improving the technologies used in the Majik Isobarik, the Akubarik houses an isobaric bass system cleverly concealed in the lower section of the loudspeaker cabinet to produce lots of rich, deep bass within a surprisingly compact package. The Akubarik is the perfect partner for the Linn Akurate DSM creating a one box system perfect for the modern home or listening room. We can t wait for the Akubariks and as soon as they are ready for demonstration we will publicise on our website. For more information on the Linn Akubariks please visit our Linn loudspeaker page. Earlier in the year, Spendor released their brand new loudspeaker, the D7 and we were very impressed when we reviewed it here. In early may we received our demonstration pair. The D7 features the LPZ tweeter which is built around a stainless steel front plate that forms an acoustic chamber directly in front of the lightweight diaphragm. According to the blurb; The phase correcting microfoil equalises sound wave path lengths whilst generating a symmetrical pressure environment so the tweeter operates in a balanced linear mode. The D7 mid-bass drive unit has an advanced EP77 polymer cone, whilst the low frequency drive unit uses a bonded Kevlar composite. The bass port also features a twin-venturi, tapered baffle element working in harmony with Spendor's proven dynamic damping, asymmetric bracing and rigid plinth mountings. The D7 also features High rigidity stabiliser plate system for solid floor mounting, Recessed high quality alloy binding posts on the rear and Spendor 'dynamic damping' to minimise cabinet resonances the D7builds upon the very latest technology from Spendor. All very interesting if you follow the technical descriptions. We just prefer to listen! Anyway, we have had our D7's on burn in for a few weeks, and we ve been very impressed with their wonderfully musical sound. Just contact us to book a convenient time to hear the new D7 if you wish. In our opinion the D7's are one of Spendor s best sounding speakers ever! For more information about the stunning new Spendor D7 please visit our Spendor page. And finally we come to Peter s recent visit to the USA and Canada. As many will know, Peter from time to time flies off to meet clients across the US and Canada and check out their systems. On this visit, Peter took in New York, Chicago, Vancouver and Toronto seeing 8 different clients and 11 different LP12s. As always, mixing business with some sightseeing when the opportunity arrises. Peter visited the Boeing Factory near Seattle, and took in the sights of Toronto from the top of the CN tower as well as visiting Niagara Falls. To read more about Peter s visit, please feel free to read our trip review here with more indepth information and pictures from his travels by visiting our blog here. That brings us to the end of the Cymbiosis summer newsletter.
