T A X I INDUSTRY LISTINGS *******************************************UPDATED 11/15/2015******************************************* TAXI, 5010 N. Parkway Calabasas, Suite 200, Calabasas, CA 91302 Please call 818-222-2464 if you have problems or questions Dear Passengers, How to Get Ten Times More Placements A couple of months ago, on an episode of TAXI TV, I announced that I was going to tell people how to get Ten Times More Placements at our annual convention, The Road Rally. I delivered on that promise on Friday morning, November 6 th, during my opening speech. I only had five minutes to deliver the speech, so people weren t able to take notes as quickly as the words were coming out of my mouth! So many people have emailed, asking for my speech in print that I decided to send it out to everybody. Here are my notes for the speech in their entirety. Use them well, and good luck! Talk to you soon, Michael What I m about to tell you might seem idiotically simple and obvious to some of you, but you d be surprised how many people don t do what I m about to tell you! And that s what s going to help you get Ten Times More Placements with your music! I need to do this in 5 minutes or less, so write fast! Step 1: Figure out what you do best, and concentrate on doing ONLY that ONE THING to start out. Step 2: Forget about writing songs at least for now, and concentrate on doing just Instrumental Cues for the time being! Why? You don t have to write lyrics, which are a time sucker, and lyrics can really narrow the possibilities for placements because they often conflict with the TV show s story line. You don t need to sing a compelling vocal, which is also a huge time sucker! Cues are typically shorter and have only one or two sections in their arrangement. In other words, Cues are just plain easier to make, and they take a lot less time to write and record! For example s sake, let s assume that what you do best is play guitar and a few other stringed instruments like slide Dobro, Banjo, and Mandolin. Let s also assume that you ve got a very modest home studio with nothing more than basic ProTools, a microphone and interface, a compressor plugin and some sort of reverb; but you know how to use that rig to get great sounds on your guitar and other stringed instruments. Step 3: Make a list of genres you can do with nothing more than your guitar and those other stringed instruments. Let s pick Swampy Cues for this example! Step 4: Make a list of TV shows that use that genre of music: Here are just a few that I found on Google! Swamp People Duck Dynasty Mountain Men Ice Road Truckers Ax Men Swamp Loggers Swamp Pawn The Legend of Shelby the Swamp Man Swamp Wars Swamp Murders Swamp Man you get the idea! That s ELEVEN shows that use the kind of music YOU make, and I m sure there are plenty more! Step 5: Watch those shows! Watch several full episodes of EACH of them, and make notes about the types of scenes and the tempos and moods of the swampy music they use: Uplifting, sad, anticipatory, tension, suspense, traveling music, end of a long day music, and so on 1

Step 6: Makes lists or spreadsheets of this information! What moods, tempos, keys, and compliment of instruments do they use? Do they have intros or not? Do they have buttoned endings or not, and so forth? Become the master of the Swampy Cue! Step 7: Assuming you have a day job, set aside 2 hours per weekday, and 10 hours over the weekend to write and record your swampy cues! That s 20 hours a week, and if you want to be successful, that s not a lot of time to invest in yourself! Step 8: Every time you write and record a new Swampy Cue, ask yourself this when you re done: What else can I do with the same compliment of instruments and sounds? You ve already got them ready to go, so work smarter, not harder! If you just did a slow, sad cue, why not do an up-tempo, happy cue right after it, using the same instruments, sounds, and settings with a new tempo, melody, and mood? Don t make life harder than it has to be. If you average 7 cues a week, you ll have about 350 cues done by the end of the year! If just 250 of those cues get picked up by music libraries, you re going to start getting a lot more placements than you re getting now. By the way, no single library is going to want 250 of your swampy cues, and you don t want to be in just one library!! Spread your bets among as many good libraries as you can! Five in this one, three in that, and so on. And for goodness sake: don t fall in Library Love with the first company that signs you! I know we all just want to be loved, and it s easy to feel like, This guy GETS me, so he s my publisher. Polygamy is perfectly legal in the music library world!!! I recommend it, because when one library is hot, another might be cold spread your bets! So, to recap: Figure out what you do best right now, start with that, do your homework, make a plan, and stick with it! And for those of you who are going to walk up to me later and say, But Michael, I write songs! Yes you do, but now you now also create Instrumental Cues, and that s the faster, easier route to making money with your music, and getting ten times more placements! Talk to you soon, Michael **************************************************************************************************************** PLEASE NOTE! If you are submitting by mail (ground submissions) and sending in a CD, please enclose a S.A.S.E. (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope) if you would like a response. Thank you! ********************************************************************************************************************************** Blues Listings SOLO, ACOUSTIC BLUES SONGS with Male Vocals are needed by an A-List, Top-Tier Music Licensing Company with tons of great placements in Film, TV, and Commercials. Please submit original, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic ballpark of legends like Robert Johnson, Son House, Mississippi John Hurt, John Lee Hooker, etc., etc., etc. Give them old-timey Blues songs with well-performed acoustic guitar, and a great vocal performance that captures the vibe-y traditional Blues sound that all the references share. Lyric themes can vary, but should be typical of what s commonly heard in Traditional Blues music. Universal lyrics will work best for this pitch, so please avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and profanity. Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this. Broadcast quality is needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Wednesday, November 25, 2015. TAXI #Y151125AB ORIGINAL, CONTEMPORARY BLUES SONGS with Male Vocals are needed by a 5-Star, NON-Exclusive Music Library that s nailed down countless placements in big Feature Films, TV shows, and Commercials. They re eagerly searching for great songs in All-Tempos that would appeal to the fans of artists like Keb Mo, Taj Mahal, Corey Harris, etc., etc., etc. Give them well-crafted Blues songs with well-played, authentic Blues instrumentation, and a vocal performance that s immediately engaging. Please avoid submitting songs with tons of guitar solos or extensive jamming, as this might be too busy to work well under the dialog in TV shows and films. Universal, Blues-related lyric themes about the heartbreaking aspects of love, relationships, and life s struggles should work best for this pitch. Do not copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, and tone. This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this. Broadcast quality is needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Friday, November 27, 2015. TAXI #S151127CB Country Listings (also see Americana, Cont. Christian listings, etc.) CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY HITS with Male Vocals are needed by a hard-plugging, Nashville-based Music Publisher for a legendary, Multi-Platinum Country Superstar that s working on a new record. Please submit radio-worthy Songs in All-Tempos (Mid-to-Up-Tempo preferred), that would appeal to the fans of artists like George Strait, Blake Shelton, Ronnie Dunn, Vince Gill, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: He has one of Country Music s most iconic and recognizable voices and has garnered an incredible number of Grammys and tons of other awards over the years. Songs need to be amazing, visual, and modern, with undeniable radio appeal. Melodies needed to be competitive with what s being played on Country radio, and feature a big, driving, stand-alone hit chorus. Limit verses to 2 to 3 max, and note that tightly structured ABABCB songs are preferred. This mature artist is known for songs that have emotional depth and 2

relatable stories told via modern Country lyrics. He can basically sing the phone book, but give him radio-friendly songs that can compete with younger artists like Lee Brice and Blake Shelton. Songs should portray a mature, seasoned outlook on life. Something with a deeper meaning that makes the world a better place. Give them Hit songs that are undeniably awesome, with fresh melodies, great hooks, and above all, a unique storyline that Nashville has yet to hear. Your chorus needs to be incredibly strong and ready for radio. You d be wise to have a really solid vocal performance on your demo to help capture the attention of this Publisher and the artist. Your demo quality needs to be competitive with songs being pitched on the Row. The specific deal points will be negotiated on a songby-song basis directly with the Publisher. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Monday, November 16, 2015. TAXI #Y151116CH NEW LISTING - POSITIVE, CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by an extremely active Nashville-based Music Publisher that pitches to many of the biggest names in Country Music on a very regular basis. They re looking really hard to find Hit Songs in All-Tempos (Midto-Ups preferred, amazing Ballads will be considered), that would appeal to the fans of acts like Lee Brice, Miranda Lambert, Hunter Hayes, Maddie & Tae, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the Publisher: Looking for VISUAL Contemporary Country story songs with fresh lyrical perspectives and engaging storylines that are positive and uplifting, to pitch to various projects and artists. For example, the lyrics might have a silver lining, a ray of hope, humorous slice-of-life story with a deeper emotional meaning that encourages listeners and tug the heartstrings, etc. Melodies need to be competitive with what's currently playing on Country radio, and feature B-I-G, driving, stand-alone hit chorus. Limit verses to 2 or 3 max, and note that tightly structured ABABCB songs are preferred. Capture the industry's attention with a catchy, individualistic title to help your song stand out above the clutter. Also, hooks with an unexpected twist are really welcome. Lyrics need to be clear, direct, conversational, VERY VISUAL, unique, dramatic, and emotionally compelling. You'll want to avoid overly repetitive, abstract, generalized, corny, or familiar sounding lines, and please note that we re not looking for songs with drinking, cheating, depressing/negative themes, but rather very compelling songs that are fun, energetic, uplifting, and resonate with listeners. Great quote, right? We couldn t have said it better ourselves, so we won t even try! Your demo quality needs to be competitive with songs being pitched on Music Row. The specific deal points will be negotiated on a song-by-song basis directly with the Publisher. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Publisher and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Monday, November 30, 2015. TAXI #S151130CO Country Listings (continued): NEW LISTING - CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a boutique Music Library (with international distribution) for placements in TV, Film, Trailers, and Commercials. Give them well-crafted Songs that fall in a wide range of what you would hear on today s Country charts, and would appeal to fans of acts like Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, just to name a few! Anything contemporary could be fair game for this pitch. Please submit rhythmically, melodically, and vocally compelling Songs that sound like a real Country act, not a one-person band that s trying to sound like the real deal. Lyrically, stick to visual storylines that are universal enough to work well for a variety of scenes. Do your best to avoid specific names, places, dates, times, brands, and profanity. We know that can be hard in Country songs, so don t sweat it too much if your song mentions a time in your life, or my home town kind of stuff. Taking Suzy to the prom in 92 could be a problem ;-) Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, so please be sure the Songs you submit for this pitch are NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You ll keep 100% of the Writer s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Sunday, December 6, 2015. TAXI #S151206CO NEW LISTING - CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS with Female Vocals are needed by a hard-working Nashville Music Publisher that s pitching directly to a chart-topping Country Superstar who s working on her next album. They re looking for extremely well-crafted Songs that could be found on the same playlist as Automatic by Miranda Lambert, Chainsaw by The Band Perry, Little Toy Guns by Carrie Underwood, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: This is for a chart topping, multi-award-winning, multi-platinum- selling female artist. One of the tops in the genre. As big as they get. Needing incredibly fresh and original tunes that can contend with and continue her long impressive streak of hits. If it's not a Song of the Year caliber tune it's not going to be strong enough here. This artist is a writer herself and she co-writes with some of the best in the business, so it's truly going to have to be a one of a kind song that would make an artist say I can't write it any better than that. Anything less won't cut it. No stock melodies - really try to present a fresh yet still marketable idea that isn't the same old, same old. It can't be so out there that radio won't play it though. Top notch vocals and melodies with some range would be a plus here. Give them chart-worthy songs with fresh, conversational lyrics that are filled with visual imagery, paired with really fresh melodies. Your demo quality needs to be competitive with songs that are being pitched on Music Row. The specific deal points will be negotiated on a song-by-song basis directly with the Publisher. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by a TAXI screener handpicked by the Publisher and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Thursday, December 10, 2015. TAXI #S151210CO NEW LISTING - ALT COUNTRY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by an Artist/Band focused Music Library with a great track record of placements, especially in TV. They re looking for Songs in All-Tempos that would appeal to the fans of acts like Ryan Bingham, Lydia Loveless, Hayes Carll, Nikki Lane, etc., etc., etc. Please submit great songs with a cohesive structure, authentic sounding instrumentation, and an earnest vocal delivery that s often one of the hallmarks of the Alt Country genre. Songs should have well-crafted melodies and a killer chorus. Remember, they re not looking for straight up Country for this pitch; rather, they re looking for songs that have a distinct Indie-esque quality which tends to appeal to a young-ish, hip crowd. Lyric themes can vary, and universal lyrics will work best. Please avoid mentioning specific names, places, dates, times, brands, and profanity. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). They offer an EXCLUSIVE deal. You ll split all upfront sync fees 50/50. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher s share, and you ll get 100% of the Writer s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics, photo, and bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Saturday, December 12, 2015. TAXI #S151212AC NEW LISTING - TRADITIONAL COUNTRY SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by the Owner of a Music Library (with global distribution through a major company) for placements in TV, Film, Commercials, and Trailers. Give them traditional, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs in the stylistic wheelhouse of George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Ray Price, Loretta Lynn, etc., etc., etc. Please submit authentic sounding songs with a distinct, old-timey vocal signature, and an overall performance that has a vibe that stays true to the Traditional Country genre. A fiddle or pedal steel would be welcome additions, but they re not necessary to get a forward just a bonus. Lyric themes can vary, but should be consistent with those generally heard in Traditional Country music. Universal lyrics are needed, so please avoid specific references to names, places, dates, times, brands, and profanity. We know that can be hard (the dates, times and places part) with Traditional Country, so don t sweat it too much if your lyrics talk about your hometown or your high school girlfriend. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, so please be sure the songs you submit to this pitch are NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You ll get 100% of the Writer s share, and the Publisher gets 100% of the Publisher s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Monday, December 14, 2015. TAXI #S151214CO Electronic Listings 3

TAXI #U151116SP LIGHT, COMEDIC INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a UK-based Production Music Library with an impressive amount of great placements in both Film and TV. Give them well-crafted Cues that you d hear in shows like An Idiot Abroad, Man Vs. Food, Backpackers, etc., etc., etc. Quoting the source: It s worth emphasizing to writers that their samples need to sound realistic, as one of the issues we found was things sounded a little 'midi' in general. We know there won't be the resources for real instruments, but Round Robin samples, playing lines in separately/different velocities, panning and taking some time to treat the samples with some fx may all help. We are competing with libraries with live tracks (and we can and have competed successfully with tracks using samples), but this is why it's so important to us. We are looking for Cues for a new library album entitled Comedy Lite. It will be Instrumentals only, and they need to be at least 2 minutes long. This is music to sit behind light comedy programming. It is important tracks are not too over the top - the key here is that the music doesn t do too much of the comic heavy lifting, the pictures will do that. Also these may be sequences where things are more cheeky than out and out humorous. These are more tracks to sit behind reality TV, factual TV, etc. Light instrumentation often works, but don t feel limited. These tracks must be interesting & classy, but remain relatively neutral so they re applicable for a broad spectrum of scenes and get licensed frequently. Cheeky, lethargic and ploddy, quirky and curious can all work. Absolute highest quality samples only, please! Bad or unconvincing midi sounds will be rejected regardless how good the writing is. You heard the man, give him Cues that convey a light comedic quality, rather than an over the top cue. Submissions should be at least 2 minutes long, with easy edit points and nonfaded endings. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal on performance royalties, and an 80/20 split in the Writer s favor for any applicable download fees by clients from their Library, so please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You ll get 100% of the Writer s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit organic sounding Instrumental Cues with Country and/or Bluegrass roots over fresh, current Hip-Hop beats. Your submissions should be based around a central melodic theme, with little to no intro, while adding and subtracting layers of instrumentation to keep it interesting from beginning to end. All submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length, with easy edit points and button/stinger endings. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).
