We are gearing up for the fall musical, FAME. Congratulations to your student on being selected as part of the cast. We welcome you to join the Boosters and help support the Theatre program at Woodbury High. The Booster organization supports the directors, crew, families, and students involved in Woodbury High School Theatre which includes the Fall Musical and the Spring Play. We also support the WHS Speech team and help with the One-Act Play. These days, every school district s budget is stressed. We support theatre at WHS by paying additional fees and costs our district can t. We raise funds through concessions, advertising, and flower sales. We collect a meal fee which covers most of the cost of the cast meals. Funds are used through the year for such things as cast meals, choreography instruction, music mixing, and technical support. For speech we help with additional coaches and snacks for the team at meets. We welcome your input and assistance throughout the school year. At the parent meeting held on September 20th we had five parents step forward to take on the open positions on our board. Thank you to Michelle Morris, Lisa & Greg Cressy, Jeanne Brino, Molly Galles, and Cherie Eaton for joining us. You re involvement is very much appreciated. Later in the year we will need a couple more volunteers. Once the One-Act is cast then we will be looking for a couple of parent volunteers to work with director/coach to plan a meal. For speech we will be getting our direction from the captains of the speech team, and the coaches as to how we can be of assistance. If you have any questions about the boosters or if you have any concerns during the year please feel free to contact, Winnie Williams or any of the booster board members. Also, remember to check our website for information. Thank you for your support of theatre at Woodbury High School and we are looking forward to a great theatre production year for our students, their families and the school. WHS Speech and Theatre Boosters

Fall 2012 WHS Speech & Theatre Boosters Please Volunteer The Fall Musical is a time of energy and excitement! It is also a time where a number of volunteers are needed to assist with the show. There are a number of Before Performances slots as well as the positions needed during the show performances. Each family is asked to please fill 5 volunteer spots, making sure that at least 2 of those are on performance nights, in order to allow all parents to attend. When volunteering for a performance night position, you are available to see most of the performances as space in the theatre and the position permits. See the information below for more information about the volunteer opportunities available. To sign up for the volunteer slots go to Signup Genius ( http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0949a8a92eaa8-fame1 ) and you can sign up on your own. If you are having difficulties, email us at woodburystboosters@gmail.com after looking at the list, and we can sign you up. Links are available on the boosters website www.whsspeechtheatre.com. Thank you for your help!!! House Manager Arrive one hour before show time. Will check in volunteers and make sure everyone knows their responsibilities. Will remain in cafeteria throughout show. Answer questions and keep it quiet. Bring a book! Tickets Two volunteers are needed for each show. Please arrive 70 minutes before show. This is best done on a night when you do not have tickets for the show since you will be asked to stay 20-30 minutes after the start of the show. Concessions Six volunteers are needed for each show. Three will need to come 75 minutes before the show starts to help set up tables, make popcorn and sell concessions before the show When the show begins, the stand will be closed. All six need to leave the show 15 minutes before intermission to prepare for intermission. After intermission, there is a brief clean-up performed by the later three. Ushers Four volunteers are needed for each show. Please arrive 45 minutes before the show starts. Hand out programs and assist patrons in fi nding their seats if needed. During show please remain at the doors during the show to seat latecomers and control access so the actors are not disturbed by the noise of the door opening and closing. During intermission remind patrons that food or beverages (except water) are not allowed in the auditorium. Donation Table Responsible for greeting folks and collecting the donated socks they may bring. Please pack up the socks and put in the auditorium after the show. Volunteer Opportunities Descriptions Flower Sales Two volunteers are needed for each show. Please arrive 30 minutes before the show. When the show begins, the stand will be closed. You will leave the show before intermission to be ready to sell. Backstage Parents Two volunteers are needed for each show. Arrive 20 minutes before the show. This is a pretty simple job, you might want to bring a book. You are here primarily in case an emergency should arise. You might also zip a zipper, button a button, or make sure things stay quiet off stage. Volunteers stay in the hallways with the actors to provide assistance and keep it quiet. Before/After performances: Meal Assistance: Multiple dates. Help set up, serve, and clean up after cast meals. Donate a Dessert or Water Ticket Sales: Multiple dates. Some evenings, some during day. Sewing Assistance: Help with sewing of costumes and other simple sewing tasks. Set Construction: Parent help needed with set construction including building and painting. Set Strike Assist Karen & Jon Seashore in overseeing set strike DO NOT purchase tickets on nights that you volunteer for House Manager, Tickets, Concessions, Usher, Flower Sales, or Back Stage Parent. We try to reserve seating in the back for our volunteers during the show as space & position permits.

WHS Speech & Theatre Boosters Fall 2012 WHS Theatre has Tradition of Giving Back to the Community Those of us who are lucky enough to have seen a production of FAME know it is a vibrant, high stepping, energetic musical and those of us who are familiar with WHS Theatre productions know that Fame will allow cast members to put their best feet forward and wow the audiences. It is a WHS Theatre tradition to capture this youthful talent and energy for the benefit of our community. Each year we link the musical with a service project that asks the cast, crew, parents, and audience to join together and help folks in need. Because FAME is a dancing musical we will be focusing on feet and collecting socks at every performance. This energetic show introduces students and audiences to folks who face challenges similar to those of folks in our larger community. We will reach out to homeless teens served by Safe House; abused women and children helped by Tubman; and struggling families served by Joseph s coat. At each performance we will ask audience members to fill baskets with new socks for those in need. With winter coming there is special need for warm socks for men and socks for little kids to replace all those lost in the washing machine.
