Task 1: Song Lyrics The lyrics of pop songs can influence the way people, especially young people, behave. In 2003, Culture Minister Kim Howells accused the So Solid Crew of glorifying gun culture and violence and causing a rise in gun crime. Lyrics can express feelings and topical social concern, from anti-vietnam war protest songs in the 1960s to hip hop today. In 1970, Joni Mitchell, in Big Yellow Taxi, sings that: They paved paradise And put up a parking lot If you deconstruct these lyrics and consider the meanings, what do you think Joni Mitchell is trying to say to the listener?
