Description of a picture poetry to do one pick a topic then pick two words that describe it then keep telling things about the topic but you have to make a picture out of whatever topic you are talking about. The format of it is Diamante here are some poems. 3

Diamante Poetry Like how I will description a diamante poem is it doesn t need a title first line word acts as the title. The format is line 1-1 word topic. Line 2-2 adjectives that describe the topic. Line 3 three verbs describing the action of the topic. Line 4-2 words relating to the topic in line 1;2. Line 5-3 verbs describing the 4

actions of the word in line 7. Line 6-2 adjective describing the word in line 7. Line 7- Antonym for word in line 1. Some example of a diamante poem. 5

Cinquain Poetry A description of a cinquain poem is it has five lines each line follows a pattern. It has three format they are Line 1-one word Line 2-two words that describe the subject of the title. Line 3- Three action words related to the subject Line 4-4or5 words that express your feeling about the title. Line 5- Same word as in Line 1 a 6

Alliteration The repeating of beginning consonant sounds as in creamy and crunchy Derek s dog digs in the ditch. Assonance The repetition of vowel sounds as in till the shining scythes went far and wide and cut it down to dry. Notice the long I sound. Free verse Poetry that is not written in any special form and doesn t require rhyme or rhythm. 15

Imagery The use of figures of speech or vivid descriptions in writing or speaking to produce mental images. Simile Compares two different objects using like or as Ex. Her hair was like spun gold Metaphor Compares two different things without using a word of comparison such as like or as. Ex. The hot cup of tea was the best medicine for my cold. Onomatopoeia The use of a word whose sound makes you think of its meaning as in buzz, gushy, swish, zigzag or chirp. 16

Personification A form of figurative language in which an idea, object or animal is given the characteristics of a person. Ex. The leaves danced in the wind Rhyme The regular repetition of sounds at the ends of lines of poetry. Stanza A division in a poem named for the number of lines it contains. Ex. Couplet is a two line poem Quatrain is a four line poem Symbolism Uses representations of ideas by means of symbols. Ex. Statue of Liberty = freedom Heart = love
