About the Comosition Hidden World is a dynamic comosition or the develoing concert band that has some ine erormance and teaching oortunities. The oening motive is loosely based on the irst gesture in Tchaikovsky s Piano Concerto No.. In the concerto, that gesture is very heroic, but I anted to exlore another more mysterious side. Ater the initial statement in the uer oodinds, sustained notes enter at m. 3 to create an intriguing dissonance underneath. Bring out the dynamic contrast here or maximum eect. Some develoment ollos to build into the irst statement o the melody at m. 7. This main melody comes out o the mysterious oening gesture. The melody takes on more comlexity at m. 5 ith added harmony and a imitative resonse. This leads to a heroic arrival at m. 36. Make sure that the ensemble does not take a breath beteen m. 39 and the to quarter note hits in m. 0. A contrasting lyrical section ollos at m.. This is a rime oortunity to teach hrasing and legato style laying. The return o the ast section at m. 5 eatures the oening gesture in a yramid o sound and imitation.
