[1] Posted by: Vanessa Davis on Monday, September 14th, 2015 [2] Before I started working at the library, I thought of the library solely as a home for books. Stacks of old books stored away on dusty shelves. I craved the crisp pages of new releases, fresh from the New York Times Best Sellers list. I wanted to keep the books forever in my own personal library. As my bookshelves became weighed down with once-read copies of books I only half liked, I switched to reading e-books. Again I overlooked the library, in favor of the ease of buying books with one-click, delivered straight to my Kindle. As I close in on my first year at the library, I look back at my many misconceptions of the library. The library is a home for old books, but also for new releases and best sellers. If I want to listen to a book, there are Playaways and audio ebooks. If I want to read on my Kindle, there are ebooks for that, too. If I want to hold a new release in my hands and turn the crisp pages, of course there is that option as well. Working at the library has made me fall in love with the library. I was always a lover of books, and now I work within the stacks of one of my favorite things. Buzzworthy reads: [3] The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (Playaway [4], book [5], downloadable [6]) The Girl on the Train is one of the hottest titles to read right now. This book has been on the Page 1 of 5
New York Times Best Seller list for more than 30 weeks and shows no signs of stopping. Justly compared to Gone Girl [7], the book revolves around a mysterious disappearance of a woman, a handful of suspects, and another woman who just wants to know the truth. [8] The Martian by Andy Weir (ebook [9], CD [10], book [11]) The Martian is a surprisingly funny and intensely captivating novel. The main character is stranded on Mars after a mission goes wrong. Now he has to use the remaining supplies to stay alive for four years until the next mission is set to land! [12] Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (ebook [13], Playaway [14], book [12]) Outlander has been around for years, but recently the book shot up in popularity due to the television show on Starz. The first season recently aired its finale, and the second season is not set to begin until 2016. Now is the perfect time to read the first novel! Page 2 of 5
[15] Yes Please by Amy Poehler (Playaway [16], CD [17], book [15], downloadable [18]) Yes Please is a funny memoir about the life of comedian Amy Poehler. Poehler performs the audio version herself along with a slew of celebrity guest stars. Poehler, who might be best known as part of the Tina Fey dream team, concocts a hilarious but real look at what it takes to make it in the comedy business. [19] Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (Playaway [20], book [19], ebook [21]) Me Before You was on every book club s list in 2013. With the sequel, After You, set to be released this fall, now is the time to read Me Before You if you missed it. The novel provides a piercing look on the controversial subject of assisted suicide, and how this decision affects loved ones.
