This packet contains important information about the audition process, rehearsals, and the performances. Please read this before you fill out the application or sign up online.

Welcome to Auditions for Guys & Dolls! (Everything you always wanted to know about being in a SSPA production!) General auditions will be held on Saturday March 16 th, Sunday March 17 th, and Monday March 18 th at Sierra School of Performing Arts, 1380 Greg Street, Suite 225, Sparks, NV. We will be looking for talented, hard-working actors, singers, and dancers: men, women, and teens (age 16 to adult). (If you are younger but look older, you are encouraged to audition.) Everyone wishing to audition will need to sign up online for an individual time slot (see times below). You must also attend one of the group dance auditions. Please note, for Saturday and Sunday, there are two dance audition times to choose from, but you only need to attend the one that is most convenient for you. Auditioning with a monologue and song: Those auditioning for a lead, supporting, or featured role will need to perform both a short (1 minute or less) comedic monologue, as well as at least 16 bars of an up-tempo song or ballad from the show or other Broadway musical. (Please avoid rock or pop style.) You do not need to be a good singer to get a role, but we do need to hear you sing!!! If you only want to be considered for the ensemble, you may opt out of the monologue. Anyone wanting to sing with accompaniment should bring a CD or, if you prefer piano accompaniment, bring sheet music with all cuts or repetitions clearly marked. (We recommend you have your sheet music either taped together or in a binder for the benefit of the accompanist) Tracks played on smartphones are discouraged. Singing acapella is fine, too. Dancers: For anyone interested in auditioning for the dance ensemble only (we are looking for 6-8 dancers), please contact us via email (info@sierraschoolofperformingarts.org) and we will register you for a dance audition. You do not need to schedule an individual time slot or perform a monologue and song. Scheduling Your Audition Auditions can be scheduled by going to https://www.sierraschoolofperformingarts.org/auditions.html, and click the Request Time Slot button. Sign ups will be live on our website on February 4. If all time slots are full, check back again for added times.

Saturday March 16 th : 1:00 4:30pm Dance audition: 1:00 1:30pm (Option 1) Monologues/Songs: 1:45 4:00pm (Scheduled Time Slots) Dance audition: 4:00-4:30pm (Option 2) Sunday March 17 th : 1:00pm 4:30pm Dance audition: 1:00 1:30pm (Option 1) Monologues/Songs: 1:45 4:00pm (Scheduled Time Slots) Dance audition: 4:00 4:30pm (Option 2) Monday March 18 th : 6:00 9:00pm Monologues/Songs: 6:00 8:00pm (Scheduled Time Slots) Dance audition: 8:00-8:30pm Everyone auditioning MUST attend one of the dance auditions. Please be prepared to perform the choreography from the video that will be posted on our website on or before February 23. We will briefly review the choreography at before the audition but we strongly recommend that you come to the dance audition with the choreography learned. We will also be reviewing the choreography in our Dance and Movement class on Tuesday, March 12 from 6-6:30pm. If you are not already in the class, you may drop in on that day to practice the choreography ($10) but space is limited; you must email us in advance (info@sierraschoolofperformingarts.org) to reserve a spot. Everyone who is auditioning must submit their conflicts, or anticipated conflicts, by either filling out the enclosed calendar with your conflicts clearly notated, or listing your conflict dates on the audition application s conflicts line. Please bring your conflicts, completed audition form, resume, and photo or headshot (5 X 7 is preferred) to the audition. You should arrive at least 10 minutes before your audition time, earlier if you do not fill out the paperwork in advance. If you absolutely cannot attend any of our audition dates, please email us (info@sierraschoolofperformingarts.org); we may be able to make other arrangements. Call Backs The call backs will tentatively be on Sunday, April 7th. Shortly after the general auditions, you will receive an email with call back information, including who will need to attend, what time, and what, if anything, to prepare. You may be scheduled any time between noon to 5pm. (We will do our best to accommodate your schedule if you let us know ahead of time.) You may be asked to prepare a part of the script or a song or songs. Please note: If your name does not appear on the call back list it does not mean that you won t be cast. DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL AFTER MONDAY 3/18 FOR THE CALL BACK INFORMATION! We would hate for you to miss a chance to be cast just because you didn t get the call back audition info. Rehearsals/ Schedule Conflicts/Absences

Rehearsals will be held at Sierra School of Performing Arts, 1380 Greg Street, Suite 225, Sparks, Nevada. Rehearsals will be scheduled on weekends (starting May 4 th ) while school is still in session. Starting June 10 th, rehearsals will change to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (and possibly a few Thursday nights depending on cast s schedules), leaving weekends free for summer fun and family. See the complete (tentative) rehearsal schedule with all scheduled performance dates included in this packet. (This schedule is provided for your general information and is subject to change.) Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal, but you are asked to be available during those times. During tech/dress week, you may be called every night. The first rehearsal begins with a mandatory cast meeting which will take approximately 30-45 minutes. For anyone under the age of 16, a parent must attend the meeting. Cast members will receive weekly schedules that give a detailed breakdown of the following week s rehearsal schedule, taking into account conflicts and the needs of the production. We respect your time and try our best to schedule rehearsals efficiently. All known or anticipated conflicts with rehearsal times from May 4th August 25 must be listed on the application. If you know you are going away for a week but not sure of the dates, please include that information, and be forthright in listing your conflicts. We may not be able to cast you in a lead or featured role if you are going to miss more than three rehearsals in June/July, or especially in August. You must be able to attend all performances (unless we decide to double cast.) If you are cast in the show and must miss a rehearsal for an unexpected reason, you must let us know as soon as possible. We can best work around absences if we know of them in advance. We reserve the right to change your part, or replace you entirely if you miss too many rehearsals or do not communicate with us about absences. CASTING WILL BE BASED ON TALENT, YOUR FIT FOR THE ROLE, AND YOUR AVAILABILITY. Release of Cast List Once the show has been cast, everyone who auditioned will be notified of the results within 5 days. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL! If you are offered a role in the show whether it is a principle role or ensemble, you must reply to either accept or turn down the offer. Production Fees We are a teaching organization that relies on grants, donations, production fees, and ticket sales to be able to continue offering performance opportunities to the many talented people we have in this area. These productions are very expensive to produce, so anyone who performs in this production is required to pay a $75.00 production fee, payable by credit card, cash or check by May 4th. Financial Assistance: If the production fee is a hardship, SSPA may be able to offset the cost with some financial assistance. Recipients of financial assistance may be asked to contribute some work hours. Please go to our website at https://www.sierraschoolofperformingarts.org/forms.html and download the financial assistance application. The applications must be completed and submitted by the first rehearsal, May 4 th.
