ABWA Seven Islands Names Woman of the Year GRAND LEDGE The SEVEN ISLANDS CHAPTER of the American Business Women s Association (ABWA) announces Julie Roll of Nashville, MI its 2015 Woman of the Year. Roll, a Network Administrator at LAFCU, has been a member of ABWA since 2010. Roll has a volunteer s heart and the skills to go with it. Roll has been active ever since joining working on newsletter, audit and nominating committees, leading programs, chairing the Ways & Means committee, and now sits on the Executive Board as chapter Secretary. Roll is professional and encouraging and always willing to organize and volunteer and help initiate change when needed. Roll brings her daughter to meetings and events, showing that she values the ABWA organization and wants to pass its values and educational opportunities to the next generation. The awards program featured musical performances by Solace, an Indie inspired group featuring one of our Seven Island s members. Businesswomen throughout the community are invited to attend the next ABWA monthly program, Dealing with Difficult People given by Heather Harris, scheduled Wednesday, March 18, at 5:30 pm at Dart Bank in Grand Ledge. Dinner ($12) will be served. For more information about ABWA, visit abwagrandledge.webs.com. 2015 Adult Winter Reading at GLADL January 1 March 31 The Grand Ledge Area District Library announces their 2015 Adult Winter Reading Program. This program is open to ages 18 and up, and will begin January 1 continuing through March 31. Pick up a 2015 Adult Winter Reading Log at either GLADL location or print the online log available at http://grandledge.lib.mi.us. Read any ten books between January 1 and March 31 and record titles on the reading log. Completed reading logs can be returned to either GLADL locations to receive a limited edition 2015 Winter Reading mug (while supplies last, & one mug per person). Savor Reading! Making Grand Ledge Proud! Thank you Renee & Chris Draves for putting G.L. in the spotlight. Last month our Grand Ledge McDonald s was chosen by McDonald s Corporation to be used to tape a webisode on the real eggs we use at McDonald s it s part of an on-going series they are doing. The segment is hosted by the Discovery Channel s ex-mythbuster host, Grant Imahara and features our restaurant and one our assistant managers, Drew Marsh, a four-year employee and resident of Grand Ledge. A lot of time went into preparing for this event, and the actual shoot took about 7 hours starting at 5 a.m. with a team of over 30 people. It was edited down to just over 3-minutes and was posted yesterday on McDonald s national YouTube and Facebook pages.

Eaton County Parks A MEMORABLE OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLINICS PSA Learn the basics of cross-country skiing: Thursday, February 12, 4pm 6pm All clinics are held at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge and are designed to teach novices the basics of cross-country skiing. The class includes tips and tricks on dressing to enjoy our wintery weather as well as an opportunity to practice basic skills such as gliding, truing and navigating hills. Cost for each clinic is $10/person with your own equipment or $15/ person if you rent our equipment. Class is dependent on snow cover. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON SNOW FEST Come cross-country ski or snow shoe under the stars on illuminated trails or enjoy the sledding hill (weather permitting) with family and friends during our Ski and Snowshoe Fests at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge. Snow Fests run from 6pm 9pm on the following Friday and Saturday nights: February 6th and 7th The Nature Center, located at the bottom of the sledding hill, will be open and heated to serve as a warming area providing hot chocolate for those that are interested. Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available on a first come, first serve basis at the Park office for those who need equipment. Cost for event is $2 per person with own equipment (payable at office) or $5 per person per hour to rent equipment. NATURE AT NIGHT ~SNOW SHOE OWL PROWL A series of Nature at Night snow shoe hikes will be held from 7pm 8:30pm on the following Wednesday evenings: February 11 and 25 All hikes will be held at Lincoln Brick Park located just north of Grand Ledge on Tallman Road. Program fee is $5 per person with equipment rental or $2 per person with your own equipment. (If there is not sufficient snow cover for snowshoeing, a night walk will be held instead for a cost of $2 per person or $5 per family.) Advance registration required. For more information or to register for any of these events please call the Fitzgerald Parks Office at (517) 627-7351. 12th Annual Bridal Show at the Grand Ledge Opera House The Grand Ledge Opera House is proud to present its 12th Annual Bridal Show on February 15, 2015 from 11 am to 3 pm. Attendees have the opportunity to view the elegant Grand Ledge Opera House as well as speak with the Lansing area s finest wedding vendors. Displays will be in the Grand Hall Ballroom and the Terrace Level Room and include Cakes, Catering, DJ s, Decorators, Florists, Gowns, Guest Accommodations, Ceremony Officiants, Party Rentals, Photography, Tuxedos, Beauty Solutions and more! Food samples will be available from the area s finest caterers and bakers. Many vendors will be offering oneof-a-kind show specials. Door prizes will be announced every 30 minutes for those who register. The Bridal Show is open to the public. Admission is $4 each.
